Posts: 51 | Blackout Grill After sanding, priming and then spraying about 6 coats of semi gloss jet black paint on my grill I got this. I decided to use a glossy finish spray instead of flat on the grill to match the cars body paint. I also sprayed the inner pieces of the grill as well. Let me know what you guys think. __________________ Tabaku | | | 06-14-2006, 05:21 PM | #2 | Member Join Date: May 2004 Location: New York Posts: 32 | I think it looks cool, lemme know if it starts to flake off or anything. __________________ Crystal: Blue 1999 318ti w/California Sunroof and M-tech body kit | | | 06-14-2006, 05:26 PM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2003 Location: Wilmington, NC Posts: 641 | looks great, painting is the much better option IMO. I don't really like the gloss look though. When I painted mine, I used chalkboard paint, giving the grilles a more matte look. Regardless, good job. -chris __________________ 18'' Ace Wheels Pirelli P7000 SS Tires Bosal Brospeed Exhaust B&M Short Throw Kit H&R Sport Springs Euro Clears cat delete Rogue Engineering Clutch Stop Modded Airbox blacked out kidney grilles Suede Headliner/A Pillars S52 CONVERSION UNDERWAY | | | 06-14-2006, 05:42 PM | #4 | Member Join Date: Feb 2006 Location: Wheaton, IL Posts: 81 | I think it might look cool on a red or white car, but I'm not too fond of it on a black one. __________________ Warning: Personal injury or death may result when ghetto and speed are mixed. | | | 06-14-2006, 06:02 PM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2003 Location: Wilmington, NC Posts: 641 | i vote that everyone should do it. I think the chrome lines look terrible, and a black grille will improve any and every BMW -chris __________________ 18'' Ace Wheels Pirelli P7000 SS Tires Bosal Brospeed Exhaust B&M Short Throw Kit H&R Sport Springs Euro Clears cat delete Rogue Engineering Clutch Stop Modded Airbox blacked out kidney grilles Suede Headliner/A Pillars S52 CONVERSION UNDERWAY | | | 06-18-2006, 03:36 AM | #6 | Member Join Date: Nov 2005 Location: Shediac, N.B. I just love the look of a contrasting grille, just seeing it in the rear view mirror coming up on you at 100 mph. The only thing I am going to be leaving not black, is the kidney outline. Even gonna get a black license frame that covers most legal limit of my plate eventually. Even black backed headlights and corners. I even have the replacement front impact strip that says BMW so I can switch it over when I go to AZ. Nice paint job though. __________________ I'm back with a different 95 ti | | | 06-18-2006, 05:30 PM | #9 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2005 Location: Quad Cities, Iowa Posts: 2,110 | Those look great. I like the gloss look alot. I hate the chrome grills on BMWs, +1 for everyone getting blackout grills or just matte silver. __________________ "Drive Fast and Take Chances" | | | 06-18-2006, 06:10 PM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2005 Location: CG68 Posts: 280 | First time I did it the paint chipped like crazy. This time I sanded it down, used self-etching primer and a few coats of DupliColor flat black wheel paint. Be careful not to swirl the paint when you wipe it all off.
