Hello All... I have a problem here with my 1996 316i... As we all know, the factory/dealer supplied radios within the cars have a security feature and normally need a "special" tool to remove them. Well, some idiot (not me) decided to attempt to pull the radio out of the panel and cracked the panel. I ordered a new panel from BMW (AU$71.00 - OUCH!!!), removed the radio properly, removed the clock and defroster/aircon switches, disconnected and separated the HVAC controls from the panel and was able to remove the old panel. I got the new panel and reconnected everything with the exception of the radio and its bracket as there are two screws at the top of the panel that need to be inserted into the dash first. My problem is, try as I may, I cannot get the two bottom clips of the panel to snap themselves back into the pod. Has anyone had the experience of removing and replacing the panel? Is there some magic trick needed to finesse them in? I'd appreciate any and all comments and suggestions. Thanks in advance! Regards, Jan - with no tunes and a hanging front panel. | | | 08-28-2007, 04:33 PM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2007 Location: LA, Bellflower, CA Posts: 3,613 | I havent had any experience removing the panel. Unfortunately, I don't (true!) own a camera. I used the following diagram from realoem: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...99&hg=64&fg=20 The panel is part number 1. What isn't shown are the two tabs at the top where the panel screws into the pod nor the plastic tabs moulded into the bottom of the panel that seem to clip into holes in the vinyl of the pod. Somebody out there has to have gotten those two bottom tabs secured without breaking them--AND without taking apart any more of the center console (hopefully). The link to the other thread is here: http://www.318ti.org/forum/showthread.php?t=25775 Please someone who has done this successfully help us out! | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
