I was turning left at 3 way intersection when some kid comes barreling through the red light, smashing into my door/fender. No one was hurt, but I was very tempted to hurt the little **** that smashed my car. After a few explicit words were exchanged the cops showed up. The cop took both of our stories, the kid claimed he had a yellow light (my light was green for at least 45 seconds). The officer then comes back to tell me that NY has a no fault policy blah blah blah... basically I was screwed. He then walks away to the other two cops that show up at the scene. After some contemplation, I decided to approach the cops who are huddled around joking and laughing with each other. I ask the group, "Is anyone going to give this kid a sobriety test, he just blew a red light." The cops tell me "they have it under control", obviously they didn't. A couple minutes later, someone had the smart idea to check if the kid was drunk. They walk over to the other car, perform a sobriety test, and put the kid in handcuffs and drive him away.... Haven't heard back from the insurance company yet, but I'm pretty sure it is totaled. So HURRAY for all you part scavengers... it looks like you might have a fresh ti carcass to rip apart (that is if I decided to buy it back from insurance) 97 black on black manual RIP moral of the story... ahhh **** it no good message can be conveyed from this story | | | 05-05-2008, 01:38 AM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2007 Location: Denver, Colorado Posts: 3,212 | Well that sucks yea i would have been tempted to beat his A$$ too. I'm really sorry to hear that man, your ti looked gorgeous. Best of luck with the insurance issues. __________________ | | | 05-05-2008, 02:22 AM | #5 | aka Stabby Join Date: Nov 2004 Location: Mead, CO Posts: 5,336 | Quote: Originally Posted by tiFreak and cops wonder why people hate them | yeah, no kidding. your tax dollars hard at work. sorry to have of your loss rendo it looked like it was minty. __________________ 1996 318ti, California package, 267k miles current mods: bilstein sports, bavauto springs, e30 m3 LCABs, solid metal ball joints, bavauto RSMs w/reinforcements, e30 3.73 LSD & halfshafts, supersprint cat-back exhaust, turner rear sway bar reinforcements, IE poly subframe & RTABs + camber/toe kits, powdercoated e36 32x front calipers, sport mirrors, H&R 28mmF/19mmR sway bars, x-brace, auto solutions SSK w/poly bushing upgrade, BMW CD43 head unit, DICE HD Radio w/iPod integration and "stealth" HD antenna, staggered style 68s, orange electronic TPMS, leather arm rest, JT Designs metal undertray acquired and awaiting install: heated seat kit, cali top switch relo, lumbar support kit, park distance control kit, heated washer nozzle kit, m-coupe rear subframe, trailing arms, differential, and halfshafts, m-coupe front/rear brakes with master cylinder, under hood light kit, mud flaps, rear sun blind, auto-dimming rear view mirror, tilt steering wheel retrofit, apexcone 5000K HIDs with 55W ballasts 2002 X5 4.4 Sport Package, 53.5k miles Current Mods: e46 m3 steering wheel | | | 05-05-2008, 02:37 AM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2005 Location: Quad Cities, Iowa Posts: 2,110 | That really sucks man, sorry to hear that. __________________ "Drive Fast and Take Chances" | | | 05-05-2008, 02:52 AM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2007 Location: SW Florida Posts: 4,275 | sad to read about your loss. i know that i would be devastated. your quick thinking about this kid drinking and driving seems to have paid off...well done. i hope to see a parts list posted if you do indeed buy it back from the insurance company. love to have that exhaust system(dibs)...since some lady decided mine needed ran into the other day. good luck with everything...and glad to hear that you're ok. Good to see that nobody was seriously hurt. May we have a moment of silence. I don't see parting out as a bad thing. Think of it like an organ donor. Your ti parts will help other people's ti. Your ti will live on in other ti lives. Again sorry to hear about your ti. We will respect your decision. | | | 05-05-2008, 04:38 AM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: Mar 2008 Location: Omaha, NE Posts: 737 | Sorry to hear about the loss. Good thinking on the drinking thing too. Make sure to get a copy of the final police report, indicating him getting hauled off. Should definately be helpful in trying to get money from his insurance company. Thinking about getting another ti? Interested in the wheels pending cost & shipping if you buy this one back from the insurance company.
