I had a bad accident at the track last week and totalled my 357ti. While the body was destroyed it appears the drivetrain survived unscathed. Once we get it pulled out and confirm everything is OK I'll be putting it up for sale as a complete plug and play kit. I haven't come up with a firm price yet, but engine, transmission, driveline, and exhaust with all the accessories to make it work would be in the $10-12,000 dollar range (it would take twice that amount to duplicate what I'm selling). I'll also have suspension parts, brakes, custom differential and any salvageable parts available for sale. Hopefully in a couple of weeks I'll have a complete list ready to post in the for sale section, but since there has been so much interest in my car I wanted to go ahead and give everyone a heads up. Was this that awesome 357ti project chronicled on this board and completed no more than a few weeks ago? Noooooooooo! | | | 06-26-2006, 06:38 PM | #3 | Member Join Date: Jan 2005 Posts: 67 | No, I'm fine. The safety gear all worked as designed. A car in front of me blew an engine and I hit his oil slick at 100mph. I went off track, hit an embankment, flipped end over end, rolled and landed right side up. Without a cage and six point belts etc. it is doubtful I would have survived, let alone hop out and walk away. | | | 06-27-2006, 04:33 AM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2005 Location: Florida Posts: 2,525 | jcarp- Sorry to hear about your accident.. Luckily you are not hurt. Just as a general question how does the track you were on handle that kind of situation? I was reading up on the waiver I have to sign to drive out at Sebring and they actually hold the driver of any car that drops oil or damages any track items liable for those items or any damages that result. They specifically talk about dumping oil on the track and damaging other vehicles and track barricades/tire walls. Is there any way to get insurance to cover a car while driving competitively on a track? I'd be interested in what you have in the way of suspension once you know what is salvageable.. | | | 06-27-2006, 04:55 AM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2006 Location: Berkeley, CA Posts: 411 | Well, I'm glad you were wise and got the all the safety equipment. It's basically 'don't drive what you can't afford to walk away from'. | | | 06-28-2006, 06:28 AM | #11 | Senior Member Join Date: Mar 2005 Location: Portland Or Posts: 2,666 | Quote: Originally Posted by jcarp No, our track doesn't hold a driver responsible for dumping oil. Have you considered just finding another Ti (or even E36) shell and transplanting?
