Are they? So if I used H&R sports, which are 1.5 drop in the front, they would most likely not rub w/the 215's? And they probably wouldn't rub during hard auto-x-ing? What do you think? I'm looking at a 1.25 inch drop in the rear. Do you think I could go with the larger 215/45/17 for both f & r? Thanks for your opinion. Of course this is assuming you're referring to 17x8 et20 e39 fitment wheels. | | | 05-30-2011, 04:52 AM | #36 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2011 Location: NJ USA Posts: 159 | Yes, that's the fitment in question. It's barely even noticeable. However, the ride is going to be a little harsher than a 215/45 due to the sidewall being shorter. But what you lose in comfort, you gain in performance. There's a trade off. Some will say that 215 is too skinny for a car equipped with an S50/S52, I disagree. A good quality high performance summer tire will give the same grip as a wider all season touring tire. Then of course you'll get those who say "just get wheels that fit", and they're absolutely correct. Unfortunately there's no OEM or aftermarket wheels that will give you both dish AND lip that will fit with wide tires. DSI's are 17x7.5, DSII's have lip but no dish, Contours same thing, LTW's same thing and they're all 1 piece wheels. That's what makes e39 wheels(style 5's, style 19's, style 32's and style 42's) look so good, the dish & lip. Very informative and helpful. Ever since I started this project, I've been looking for the perfect wheel, tire combo. It's not easy trying to find a stylish, good looking, lightweight, strong combo that can be used for daily driving, hard auto-X and maybe the occasional track day. I have two sets now but they're not ideal. My Z3 donor has style 18's that are 7.5x17 & 8.5x17. My Ti has style 30's with 225/50/16 that are only 7" wide from a 328is. I"m not crazy about either set and I think the style 18's are probably too heavy, not sure. Anywho, I'll most likely sell both sets and keep looking for the ideal set. Back to the old drawing board, LOL! This is like learning a whole new language coming from motorcycle racing. Thanks again. | | | 05-30-2011, 11:08 PM | #39 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2009 Location: Chicago Posts: 111 | Here are better pics of the style 5's on my Ti. I am running 215/45/17 in the fronts, and 205/40/17 in the rears. Dropped about 2 inches, minor rubbing on the rear on turns. profile: left rear: left front: left profile: left rear: right rear: __________________ "Never trust a big butt and a smile" 97- 328Ti (daily) 01- S2K (auto-x, cruiser) 96- JDM Integra SiR-G turbo (1/4 mile, auto-x, road course, show) | | | 07-16-2011, 12:26 AM | #40 | Junior Member Join Date: Mar 2011 Location: Dallas, Texas Posts: 19 | got myself 17x8 et20 and 17x9 et19 on the rear, here some pictures it's not on yet. still working on the fender and suspension (control arms, tie rod, brakes, etc.) | | | 07-16-2011, 03:58 AM | #41 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2010 Location: Potomac Falls VA DMV Posts: 1,794 | How'd you get them staggered? No way they'll fit on a ti without extensive fender modifications, stretched tires and possibly a widebody. | | | 07-16-2011, 04:38 AM | #43 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2010 Location: Potomac Falls VA DMV Posts: 1,794 | Really? The dude took a pair of e36 style 19's and a pair of e39 style 19's and matched them up. I've seen that done with style 5's as well and you still end up with a square set of 17x8's which is better IMO for the sake of rotating tires. | | | 08-03-2011, 08:57 PM | #45 | Junior Member Join Date: Mar 2011 Location: Dallas, Texas Posts: 19 | finally got to put my style 5 on bimmer they are 17x9 et 19 on the rears wrap around 215.40.17 falken 912 and 17x8 et 20 wrapped around with 205.40.17 falken 912 on the fronts no spacers no wide body kits, lil fender rolled, 1.5 dropped, just a simple clean TI with add on lips on non m3 bumper .
