Default 318is Dash trim

Check it out, I have beenviewing these forums for awhile, and I am finally deciding to post because I have a question that it seems is unanswered...maybe i'll be the first to do it.

I have a 98 ti and i want to change the dash and all the trim with the iS...is that possible...given that one is the coupe and another is the compact, but is it possible to do without too much modification, or dare i say it...BOLT ON?!?!?! I have included the OEM parts catalog for you to compare...let me know what you all think,

the is

I've seen a couple of peeps do it. I don't know what it took, but it's possible. I'll be doing a dash swap... ( sometime ) and upholster the new one in white alcantara. unless I think it looks to gaudy. I've been looking at pics, and so far it seems pretty good. but back to your question, the answer is yes, it's possible.

Wait what? That swap is an E36/5 w/ Passenger Airbag -> E36/5 w/o Passenger Airbag. Chuck is looking for E36/5 -> E36, which has that wrap around cockpit feel. I imagine the HVAC vents and the manual HVAC controls could pose a problem for the E36/5 -> E36 swap.

Nailed it...I love that cockpit feel, and plus it is going to allow me room for the Clarion Double DIN, without ultra modifications. But most importantly, the dash style is just badass...

HAve you ever seen it...the HVAC could be solved with simple aluminum foil for a shabby job or actual custom built aluminum piping, but what about the dimensions...would it fit?

That's a good question I cannot answer. However when you do your swap, come to my house and do one for me too. I wish we had a double DIN and that cockpit feel, and a better OBC. I'd be worried about the Manual HVAC Controls, since those are cables. The Air ducting shouldnt be that difficult, nothing a custom fiber glass job wont fix.

I'll be in Boston starting Aug 10 and that's pretty much the end of any fun I'll have. Aside from the day or two holidays. School + Work, can't wait. I doubt I'll be home much.

Did you get the main dash piece yet? If you did, how does it look, will it be a clean fit?

nope, I have not picked up the main dash yet.. been working on getting the hard to get switches (with their pigtails) and all the little parts.

I am also undecided if I want full airbags or if I want to get rid of them totally
