As posted somewhere earlier in this thread, there is a strut for a Cavalier that fits which is Strong Arm #4708. I happened to come across a stupid good deal on them on ebay and bought 4 of them already, but there are 4 more in the auction: http://www.ebay.com/itm/151074017048...84.m1497.l2649

They are working well for me so far. I don't know if it would be an issue for any of you, but they ship these things out in such a huge box that I don't even understand how they can be making any money.

Default Strong Arm 4287 won't compress

I got a set of Strong Arm 4287 struts for my 97 318ti hatchback.
I cant get them to compress to install them.
Package says they won't compress by hand. I've tried putting 100lbs pressure on them still no budge.
I only need about 1 inch to mount them.

Anyone?

Just bought & installed the StrongArm 4287 struts for the 318ti hatch lid. Work fine, and advice on this thread helped make the installation painless. Thanks to all who contributed. I bought the pair for $31.80 w/ free shipping from Lift Supports Depot (mentioned in this thread), but through eBay, as their own sites had shipping added for a few more bucks. Here's the link to the eBay item (if it's still active):

If you haven't done so, remove both of the older units. As has been mentioned in the thread, removing both should allow the lid to open further to mount the new ones.

I ordered the Strong Arm C4708 struts and installed them tonight.
Purchased from Auto Parts Discounters on Ebay. Under $6 each with free shipping.
As VWMikel said, arrived in a huge box, very well packed.
I cannot see how they can be making money on these.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/C4708-Strong...96f46d&vxp=mtr

PERFECT fit, perfect tension.
Would recommend to anyone needing rear hatch struts.
I never felt mine when new, but I'd say these are exactly what it should have felt like opening and closing.

Installation was literally 10 minutes using nothing more than a screwdriver to pop the stock clips off the stock struts.

VWMikel great post.
Thanks to the person that found this Strong Arm C4708 application.
Cheers

Sorry about reviving this thread, but these look like they're closer to OEM. Anyone use them? http://www.ebay.com/itm/REAR-HOOD-HA...-/400190047263

Thumbs up Snappy tho!

Bought these and did this job today after finding the thread yesterday. In and out replacement in the Advance Auto / Carquest parking lot. These joints are snappy tho!!!

The hatch struts have never worked in the year + that I've had the car, so this is going to be a nice change. If you're on the fence, GO FOR IT
