I think there was a group buy here a long time ago where some of the guys got VIS to whip up a special batch of carbon hatches for $500 each. __________________ "Drive Fast and Take Chances" | | | 06-27-2007, 02:11 AM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Jan 2007 Location: Los Alamos, NM Posts: 344 | do you think VIS would be willing to do it individually, granted far greater costs for said individual? I don't have the moolah now, but I really want to know where to find one. Also, anybody know how much a carbon hatch weighs? | | | 06-27-2007, 02:28 AM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2005 Location: Quad Cities, Iowa Posts: 2,110 | Try getting another group buy together. Find a contact number and tell them that you are organizeing a group buy for 318ti.org, they will give you a minimum number of people needed and you get them all together. Then you could get it for $500. Sorry couldnt tell you how much it weighs though. __________________ "Drive Fast and Take Chances" | | | 06-27-2007, 11:33 AM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2007 Location: Ferndale, MD Posts: 462 | Thanks. Does anyone here have one on their 318 now? I would like to see what it looks like. I just don't want my car to look "ricey". I guess that if all else fails there is always paint. | | | 06-27-2007, 05:03 PM | #8 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2007 Location: Seattle, WA Posts: 402 | I thought the reason for CF was to lighten the car. Since there already is a weight bias towards the front on our cars (moreso than almost any modern BMW), why make the bias even worse by making the rear even lighter? __________________ 1997 332ti - Don't even ask. 2006 330i - ZPP/ZSP/ZCW/6sp/Nav/BT/H&R Sport 2011 E92 M3 | | | 06-27-2007, 05:12 PM | #9 | Senior Member Join Date: Jan 2007 Location: Los Alamos, NM Posts: 344 | Quote: Originally Posted by larryn I thought the reason for CF was to lighten the car. I believe it. | | | 06-27-2007, 05:39 PM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2005 Location: Florida Posts: 2,525 | That group buy never went through before... I don't know of anybody on here that has a cf hatch. I think they needed atleast 10 confirmed buyers, and it was going to take a few months to get them all made. I think they also needed somebody to take a Ti to them so that they could get everything made perfectly. | | | 06-28-2007, 01:22 PM | #11 | Member Join Date: Jun 2007 Location: Burlington, VT Posts: 62 | Quote: Originally Posted by trickiekid | So, this would fit on the ti wouldn't it? /Derrick | | | 06-28-2007, 03:11 PM | #12 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2007 Location: Seattle, WA Posts: 402 | Quote: Originally Posted by ///MptyPockets So, this would fit on the ti wouldn't it? /Derrick | Quote: Originally Posted by SDKmann Unless you have a coupe that wont work. | We have compacts, not coupes. You would lose a little bit of weight by switching to CF, but most of the hatch weight is in the glass. __________________ -Kenny | | | 06-28-2007, 07:42 PM | #15 | Senior Member Join Date: Mar 2007 Location: Downtown Historic Fredericksburg, VA Posts: 339 | we got a BIG window back there __________________ now when i hit that switch, I'M BOUNCIN. | | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Thread Tools | | Display Modes | Linear Mode | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
