I also love the spiller at the bottom, but I know that both the grill and the spiller can be simply put onto the mtec bumper, as it appears almost exactly the same as the m3 bumper. My question is this : Is there any difference between the m3 and the mtec bumper, does the m3 weigh less or is it exactly the same. Also if you deduct the cost of the grill and the spiller, is the m3 bumper more expensive, because if so I may simply get another mtec bumper and replace the grill and add a spiller instead! Cheers, Rich. | | | 03-14-2006, 07:33 PM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2005 Location: UK Posts: 312 | ti sport & M3 bumpers are identical, same part# so same price. I brought a genuine BMW splitter from ebay for £50, mesh grills can be had for the same, a dealer will charge twice that. | | | 03-15-2006, 09:07 AM | #3 | Moderator Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Bouncing off the rev limiter in CT! Posts: 3,156 | Holes (with an odd shape) must be made in the bottom of the bumper cover to attach the splitter. A used M3 part (from a non-luxury model M3) will have the holes alredy drilled. They are not round, so depending on your skills, you may want to search for a used bumper cover from an M3. The covers are identical, as stated above. | | | 03-15-2006, 01:39 PM | #4 | Junior Member Join Date: Jan 2006 Posts: 3 | ACS REAR SPOILER WHERE CAN I GET THE 3 PIECE SPOILER AND HOW MUCH ARE THEY? Posts: 3,156 | That's a good write-up. I used that one as a guide when I did my splitter; then I added the filler pieces, then the LTW splitter and mounting hardware... Somewhat of a nightmare to install actually. The entire bumper cover has to come off for that install, but it's worth it I think. | | | 03-19-2006, 12:59 AM | #9 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2006 Location: London Posts: 120 | Well I have gone ahead and bought the e36 m3 bumper. It arrived quickly and the car is going into the shop to have work started on monday. Pictures up as soon as I get it back! | | | 09-01-2013, 01:24 AM | #10 | Junior Member Join Date: Sep 2012 Location: Wyoming Posts: 2 | Behind the bumper What about the duct work behind the M bumper? I have a 95 Sport (US). Do things fit together? | | | 09-22-2013, 09:47 PM | #11 | Member Join Date: May 2008 Location: Central Illinois Posts: 59 | Quote: Originally Posted by M1sterSmith What about the duct work behind the M bumper? Everything fit well and YES you do need the M3 Brake Rotor Cooling Ducts too. The only drilling I had to do was 2 holes in the metal Bumper for the L/R Fog Lamp Stays. Since the Fog Lamps are effectively moved forward the stays needed new forward holes in the metal bumper. I also replaced both worn, cracked front Wheel Well Liners too. Posts: 3,156 | Fog lights mount directly to the bumper cover in the M3, not to the bumper... That way the entire assembly comes off the car and you just unplug the lights. | | | 09-24-2013, 12:27 AM | #13 | Member Join Date: May 2008 Location: Central Illinois Posts: 59 | Guess I didn't make myself clear Jim...sorry. Yes the Fog Lamps are mounted to the Plastic Bumper Cover (exact same as the ti Bumper) but there are two plastic Stays (Item 7 in the parts fiche - LEFT/RIGHT SUPPORT FOR FOG LAMPS, BMW P/N: 51-11-1-977-107/8) that bolt one end to the metal Bumper Carrier and the other end to the Plastic Bumper Cover next to the plastic Fog Lamp Carrier. I had to make new holes for the two Stays where they bolt to the metal Bumper Carrier due to the more forward location of the Fog Lamps on the M3 Bumper. Is it possible someone added Fogs to yours and left off the Stays? But thinking about it the metal bumper comes off with the cover as a unit I think... (it's been a while since I ripped it off) Car needs paint anyway, so I'll be tearing it all apart at some point. | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
