It would go away whenever I depressed the clutch, and would go away shortly after. Colder days seemed to be the worst, and since then it has gotten a lot worse. Now every time in the first 3 gears the clutch goes down, its a squeeling loud enough to make heads turn. Its really embarrassing and I need to do something about it. If I have to replace it what is the best clutch kit for my 98 318Ti? If I`m looking for performance? Most of us buy our clutch kits on ebay. __________________ -Jeff | | | 08-02-2009, 09:31 PM | #3 | Junior Member Join Date: Jun 2009 Location: Belleville Ontario Posts: 15 | Please explain a little better, how do you know the flywheel is toast? | | | 08-02-2009, 09:40 PM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2008 Location: Raleigh/Charlotte, NC Posts: 1,233 | ...the screeching, metal on metal...yum. __________________ -Jeff | | | 08-02-2009, 09:48 PM | #5 | Junior Member Join Date: Jun 2009 Location: Belleville Ontario Posts: 15 | Wow your real helpful eh? I'm about 80% sure it's the throwout bearing. I just wanted a w drivers opinion, but i guess my little sister could have been more helpful | | | 08-02-2009, 10:09 PM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2006 Location: maritimes Posts: 1,433 | I was going to say throwout bearing as well. Especially if the gears are harder to get into. Mine ended up seizing completely and sheering a couple forks off my pressure plate. look up kits on Ebay for good prices on OE+ kits. I got a SACHS heavyduty M3 clutch kit + a fidanza ltw flywheel off there, can't remember the price. Maybe $6-700 for the whole thing - flywheel wasn't cheap at all. Bolts right up to your 318 as well. There are more options, but thats my contribution. __________________ 11/97 Base 328Ti | | | 08-02-2009, 10:44 PM | #7 | Junior Member Join Date: Jun 2009 Location: Belleville Ontario Posts: 15 | Thanks! Ya that was a little more helpful! Hopefully I won't need a new flywheel yet. | | | 08-02-2009, 11:02 PM | #8 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2006 Location: maritimes Posts: 1,433 | Well I have a used 2.8L flywheel if yours is toast. You would need the clutch kit to match though. It looks a little rusty from sittin in the damp garage, but im sure it would clean up well. If interested, Ill clean it up and have it checked out at a machine shop to make sure its still good. __________________ 11/97 Base 328Ti | | | 08-02-2009, 11:37 PM | #9 | Junior Member Join Date: Jun 2009 Location: Belleville Ontario Posts: 15 | Haha alright, how much would you want for it? | | | 08-03-2009, 02:46 PM | #10 | Junior Member Join Date: Jun 2009 Location: Belleville Ontario Posts: 15 | so am I right in saying that the M3 clutch kit will work in my 318Ti ? this is the one I was looking at, can someone let me know if this is what I want to get before I buy it? cause it says for a 6 cyl, and mine an I4... | | | 08-03-2009, 02:47 PM | #11 | Junior Member Join Date: Jun 2009 Location: Belleville Ontario Posts: 15 | | | | 08-05-2009, 12:40 PM | #12 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2006 Location: maritimes Posts: 1,433 | that will bolt up fine! As long as you get the whole kit... you need that FW to use the M3 clutch kit. Its the same kit/seller that I got I believe, except they offered a fidanza 13lbs flywheel instead of that F1 16.5lbs one from the ad at the time. __________________ 11/97 Base 328Ti | | | 08-05-2009, 03:12 PM | #13 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2009 Location: Charlottesville, VA Posts: 102 | RC Snowboarder if you go with this combination will you please post your thoughts on it. I know I will need to replace my clutch in the future and I am either going to stick with the stock setup or switch to a setup like this. | | | 08-05-2009, 05:28 PM | #14 | Junior Member Join Date: Jun 2009 Location: Belleville Ontario Posts: 15 | So it turned out I needed this done a lot sooner than I thought. So I gave it to my mechanic and I'm not sure what clutch assembly he's gonna put in, but I'll let you know | | | 08-13-2009, 05:30 PM | #15 | Junior Member Join Date: Jun 2009 Location: Belleville Ontario Posts: 15 | They put a SACHS assembly in it, I havnt noticed much of a difference really | | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
