Aparently, it will work with the 'black-box' gizmo, as someone else on that other thread had already done it. I would PM that person directly for additional information. And, Steve is correct in that if you simply plug that six-cylinder cluster in, it will work to the best of it's ability, but the RPM will read 2/3 low. However, the cluster CAN be reconfigured for four cylinders, but you may have to install it in an M-car and have a dealer re-code it for the four. All the E36 clusters are capeable of being reconfigured for 4,6,8 or (I think) 12 cylinders. The trick is finding someone willing to do it. Installing the cluster in your car and hoping the dealer will be able to re-code it is futile. I have a factory new 1998 M3 cluster that I could not use because the dealer's software could not recognise a cluster AT ALL in the car to code it. I still have that cluster, in the original box...
