Question Any tips for removing window tint?

One of the next items on the 98 is to remove the wrinkled window tint. I read methods about heating the window in the sun and using Ammonia, steam and/or moisture.

I found a clothes steamer and tried it on a sample area and it works, but leaves residual glue. (Perhaps I'll do it again when it's 105 degrees outside rather than at 68 degrees at 6:07am. )

Anyway, I'll try it again when it does heat up, but I'll ask here what method you used that brought you the best success without making a gigantic mess.

Thanks!

Ammonia will remove the glue residue afterwards. Keep using the steamer.

I removed my tint using a steamer used to remove wallpaper.
No residue at all.

I did it the cheap way with a hair blow dryer, razor blade and a spray bottle filled with soap and water. I had a friend on the out side heating up the window while I sprayed on the opposite side of the window and started scrapping the tint off. Also it would be useful to remove the rear window poppers to get in the corners on the window

There are lots of different methods you can use, but it's always best to use what works for you. Sometimes the amount of time the tint has been installed affects how it will come off, too.

I've had some success with some of the tint remover liquids if the tint has been on for a very long time, or if not, then simply heating and slowly peeling.

Spray liberally with glass cleaner containing ammonia. Take plastic such as that used to bag your dry cleaning. Press it on the wet glass and let stand for 15 minutes or so keeping the glass wet. The tint should peel off. I have used this method on a number of cars.
