Today I removed both rear hubs, lightly sanded e-brake and main brake pads, reinstalled, adjusted e-brake shoes and figured I was done. Wrong! No difference at all. So I put the car on stands and ran it in reverse. No noise. Put it on the ground and rotational squeak is there even at very low speed as long as in reverse. If I shift out of reverse and continue rolling backwards, no noise. Lifting e-brake and/or pumping brake pedal makes no difference in pitch of the squeak. Any help would be greatly appreciated. __________________ | | | 02-23-2009, 04:35 AM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2007 Location: Elizabeth City, NC Posts: 3,877 | Does the pitch change relative to speed in reverse? __________________ ~Dave~ 98 328ti Morea Grun slicktop 11 128i space gray slicktop 13 JGC WK2 Deep Cherry Search | RealOEM | | | 02-23-2009, 05:24 AM | #3 | Member Join Date: Apr 2006 Location: Kauai, Hawaii Posts: 41 | yes, i drove in reverse on a long road today and it does increase with speed. __________________ | | | 02-23-2009, 02:13 PM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Greenville, SC Posts: 9,356 | I had the exact same symptom. It was my center load bearing. Changed the flex disc at the same time. YMMV. __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 02-23-2009, 06:42 PM | #5 | Member Join Date: Apr 2006 Location: Kauai, Hawaii Posts: 41 | Thanks for the idea '96 i will have a look at that today and get back 2 u! __________________ | | | 03-15-2009, 11:37 PM | #6 | Member Join Date: Apr 2006 Location: Kauai, Hawaii Posts: 41 | I got my center bearing and guibo in the mail this past week and was looking through the pelican article on changing them out. Did you use a pipe wrench to loosen the big nut on the drive shaft? Not a tool I keep around. Just trying to make sure I have everything I need before I start. __________________ | | | 01-17-2010, 02:28 AM | #7 | Member Join Date: Apr 2006 Location: Kauai, Hawaii Posts: 41 | LOL it has taken me 10 months to get this squeak fixed! I ended up changing out flex disk, center bearing and complete drive shaft. The front U joint was a bit "gravely" feeling so o replaced the entire assembly. No more squeak! Sure seems to accelerate smoother now too. Thanks for the info 1996. __________________ | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
