I got a 96 318Ti Sport and I want to drop it should I go with the H&R lowering springs?

Your going to want to go with "eibach" they are the best and always have been.

90% of lowered members here are running H&R's. Good springs. I highly recommend upgrading shocks and struts. Stiffer aftermarket spring rates will certainly cause your stock shocks and struts to fail prematurely.

I had Eibachs on my clubsport and there was no noticeable difference. I've also ran Intrax and B&G springs on my other Bimmers. The Intrax were really stiff, B&G's were the lowest.

H&R sports with Tokico blues on mine. 150 miles a day and perfectly comfy, still has enough clearance to get over most stuff.

Might want to read up on what happens to the rear suspension when you drop it though...

Haven't tried many set ups. Just RD sports, and H&R race springs with bilstein shocks and struts. I DD the H&R's with the occasional races here and there. I'm very happy with the appearance, and the handling. The H&R rear springs are 1mm shorter than the RD's, but more stiffer.

+1. It's not pretty. Tramlining, and the rear wants to hop when it goes over a bump while turning.

I'm also considering a lowering suspension for next spring. Are you guys saying it is not recommended to do the H&R race kit because it actually makes the ride worse? You mentioned having issues with the rear end hopping around corners.... this is problematic for me... i want to go around corners not be scared to death i'm going to drift out.

would it be recommended to go with the Sport kit which doesn't lower the car as much?

Pretty much any lowering kit with stiffer springs is going to make the ride worse if you are comparing it to stock.

When I had the sport kit, I don't think fronts were low enough compared to the back. I had really bad tramlining, especially if you have skinny wheels. But when I started running race, some tramlining went away. I think it evened the balance a bit, and the rates.

Tbh, the rear hop is not that bad. And if you're scared to death of drifting on corners, you better get used to it, because these ti's get tail happy a lot.

Thanks for the advice guys
and I'm only planning to drop the front not the back because the rear is already low.

Older thread, but just wanting to confirm the different type and color for TI based H&R springs. I looked on the website and Purple were sports, Blue were super sports and red were race. I was talking to James the other day and he indicated for TI's purple and Blue are reversed. I measured the two springs and found the Blue ones 2mm thicker and the same height.

I'd thinking the purple would have a lower drop, supporting James comments to be super sports, but wouldn't they be softer being a smaller diameter?

Clarity needed please. Thanks!

Interesting point there Rich. So, seems James was spot on about the springs including the ones on my car.

Glad I popped into this thread, now I also understand that sensation that I feel of the car hopping all over the place. Time to install my DS1's.

So I am running H&R sports on my ti with stock shocks. The tramlining isnt that bad in my opinion. The rear end stays nice and planted through the turns. The ride is kind of rough and the car will scrape from time to time. I attribute that to using stock high mileage shocks. I installed new meyle hd control arms, tie rods, and delrin subframe bushings as well. The car handles amazingly now. With a set of 16" style 29's with 204/45 tires. I say go for it just make sure to get new shocks as well.

Ah, thanks! I run purple H&Rs on my 97. I have another set of purple and a set of blue. I wasn't seeing a clear reference for the TI on the H&R site, so I'm simply looking to confirm if which are the H&R super sports? Blue or Purple?

BTW, I run Billy Sports with H&R purple now with staggered Style 68s. Love the ride and firmness. Wondering how the blues will ride.
