The car battles to get to idle speed when the revs are dropping off (rev and release). It almost dies but then then goes to idle. It also dies when reversing on full lock and sometimes when you first start the car. - I have sprayed carb cleaner around all pipes to hear for fluctuation in revs (leaks) - I have just given the car a oil and air filter service and cleaned the spark plugs - I have cleaned the AFM - I have also cleaned the Idle Control Valve. Any other ideas? I'd like to get this sorted out ASAP as my missus is moaning about how much it cuts out when she drives it. The car seems to run perfectly otherwise Thanks all Dylan | | | 08-03-2010, 07:06 PM | #2 | Junior Member Join Date: Aug 2010 Location: Frome Posts: 2 | Anyone? | | | 08-10-2010, 04:01 AM | #3 | Junior Member Join Date: Aug 2010 Location: Norwalk Posts: 14 | going through the exact same issue with my 95 318ti.. ordered a new intake boot cause the old one was cracked. still idles rough though.. choking to stay on with out acceleration=/ | | | 08-11-2010, 04:20 AM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2007 Location: Gulfport, Florida Posts: 3,208 | How many miles or km since you change the upstream O2 sensor? Any Check Engine light? Why clean the plugs? please replace them, they are cheap and will elimate that as a issue. Check spark plug wires for cracks? Is the car missing like a spark plug is not firing or is the idle not steady (idle up/down almost stalling)? Is it a stick shift or automatic? Does one look much different? If so that might be your mis-firing cylinder. Also I don't think knock sensors are active in the tune at idle but they sure will kill performance so get that fixed too.
