The trany will fit. You have to use all the parts of your M3 , and add the destroyed. The engine compartment is exactly the same. You have to be carefull with the electronic section of the swap , if your engine is OBDI and the ti is a M44 it will be more difficult, and the immobiliser needs attention too. The parts that will not fit the ti is the whloe rear axle. __________________ Alpina front lip spoiler,ACS roof spoiler,OEM clear rear-side lights,In-Pro blackchrome front indicators,Lummar tinted glasses,318ti.org decalls,Eibach Sportline 45mm/30mm springs,Bilstein Sprint shocks,16mm rear sway bar, front eccentric wishbone bushes,E46 conv. Either way you are going to have more difficulty going from obd-I car to a obd-II car. Do you want a cheap short block or an expensive? Recycling yards are a good place to start. BavEngine has a recycling yard that has all the US motors. They also sell reman engines. EDIT: I thought it was illegal to swap an engine in older than the car, in california at least. | | | 04-29-2006, 09:35 PM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2004 Posts: 411 | see the sticked thread. Not sure how long the diff will last either. __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 04-30-2006, 01:48 AM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2004 Posts: 411 | diff should last about 4 miles | | | 04-30-2006, 02:06 AM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2006 Location: Southern California Posts: 456 | I'm sorry I just got back from looking at th ti. the car is a 95ti and the m3 was a 95 3.0 u.s. 240h.p. (august 94 production) with obd 1. the ti was a 1.8 obd1. will the enging bolt up? thanks you guys really are knowledgeable. | | | 04-30-2006, 03:58 AM | #8 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2004 Location: Muncie, Indiana Posts: 1,551 | That will make things much easier for bolting up. Did you ever have issues with the valve retainers on the engine? That was a known problem and would be a good idea to fix. OBD-I to OBD-I is the easiest of all swaps. So yes it will 'bolt up' althought it is not quite that simple. | | | 05-01-2006, 02:29 AM | #9 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2006 Location: Southern California Posts: 456 | a little more help please? i am going to be pulling my motor out soon. it looks like it took a good slam in the front. i am not sure what i can slavage. but as soon as i pull it i will be able to tell. Smoeone here brought up a good point to me about spending all this time and effort to swap a 135k mi motor. what should i buy new and what should i keep even if it aint broken? i dont want to install 135k mi part thatwill break on me soon? does any one know where i can buy a shortblock? if my block is ok what should i replace in it. Also, when i shut the motor off after te accident it was running horrible. when it went vertical on the towtruck all the oil leaked out. should i scrap it and keep the intake manifold, starter. are the stock headers good enough to reuse or do aftermarket ones raise h.p. pretty much does anyone know of a good shop to call to talk to about some issues and purschasing parts. can i get some trusted site names? | | | 05-01-2006, 02:51 AM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Greenville, SC Posts: 9,356 | Quote: Originally Posted by m3outtanowhere pretty much does anyone know of a good shop to call to talk to about some issues and purschasing parts. can i get some trusted site names? | Where is CA? __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 05-01-2006, 05:39 AM | #11 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2006 Location: Southern California Posts: 456 | good bmw performance parts service and help for a swap. in riverside california. or san bernadino, or orange county. | | | 05-01-2006, 02:14 PM | #12 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Greenville, SC Posts: 9,356 | Quote: Originally Posted by m3outtanowhere in riverside california. or san bernadino, or orange county. | How far is that from http://www.avusautosport.com/?
