Default Halfshafts: Genuine BMW VS. Advanced

AA sells the pass side at $89.99 and driver side at $79.99

Pelican at $438.00

Anybody has tried the AA with one year warranty by GSP axles?

My pass side halfshaft has a lot of backlash and planning on replacing it this weekend.

I took the plunge and bought the GSP halfshaft (CV axle) from Advanced.
We will see how the quality looks when it arrives tomorrow.

They're junk. Bluebimma and somebody else(can't remember who) tried them and they broke.

Jess you are right. I picked up the CV axle this afternoon and opened the box.
I am disappointed with the quality. The inner CV has some radial play which is not good. The radial play on the new CV is as much as my 230k mile CV.
I will return it tomorrow.

I am better off driving the car on the original CV axles with a slight backlash.

Indianapolis Rack and Axle (http://indianapolisrackandaxle.com/) remanufactured my Rear CV-Shafts a couple years ago and they're still working fine ~20k miles later. Cost $253.25 Also, I think the same CV-Axles are used on the Z3 w/ 1.9 L Engine.

Thanks for the link.

I went ahead and bought a used set from a guy parting out a 99TI. When they arrived, I immediately checked the CV joints and they were all very tight compared to my 230k mile CV that are very loose.

Now, I just need to put them in this weekend.

If anyone wants to rebuild their own, the Raybestos boots (p/n 8161784) that are on RockAuto work for both the inner and outer joints. I just got those boots and packed the joints with Redline CV2.
