Sure I can afford the spinners, quite easily i might add, but I'd rather put the money towards something I need a little bit more, like winter tires, gas, books, tuition, insurance, food, my cell phone bill, etc. I'd rather save, save, save, save, and not worry about payments later. | | | 10-02-2005, 11:00 AM | #17 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2005 Location: England Posts: 177 | Quote: Originally Posted by Boxbrownie I think the point Matt was trying to make is the fact that over here buying and owning a BMW is usually completely out of the financial reach of younger people, let alone "college kids"......insurance alone would probably amount to more than the purchase price of a clapped out used BMW for anyone under 21 For example to insure my daughter at 20 on a Ford Fiesta 1300 this year cost around £1500......more than the value of the car!!! I have friends who bought 4 Banger Mustangs and put 5.0 motors in them, basically turned the body into a full fledged 5.0, with symbols, but since the VIN# is still indicating a 4cyl, they get away with it, because insurance doesn't INSPECT your car... they just look up the VIN as we would online. [edit] Though I can see that changing in the near future with all these highly modified cars on the roads. | | | 10-03-2005, 10:52 PM | #19 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2005 Location: England Posts: 177 | Quote: Originally Posted by JPerfect Insurance doesn't look at Mods, they just care about the VIN Number. Im 17 and i had a '03 Hyundai Accent, which i sold to get my Ti. So its not as bad as some may think. __________________ 1993 325is Hellrot Tribute to: 97 318ti Montreal Blue R.I.P 96 318ti Schwartz II | | | 10-07-2005, 03:00 AM | #21 | TRETEN IRGENDEINES ESELS Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: Rhode Island Posts: 3,687 | Quote: Originally Posted by Boxbrownie BTW...the spec you have "98 Avus Blue 318 ti Active clear outs all around, stealth turning signals, blue interior lights,PIAA lights,35% tinted windows,K&N air filter,Rockford Fosgate punch 12",MTX Thunder amp,Alpine cd changer, Leatherz Armrest,ACS Pedals/Handbrake/FloorMats and Carbon Fiber B-Pillars" I'm not sure you would get any insurance company to even laugh at a quote for you over here on that ti with those mods! | With or without what i've done to my car it's not going to change my insurance price. I have no performance mods just cosmetic. If that changes the price of insurance in the UK that is a joke. I only pay $1100 with full coverage. When i 1st got my license the most i paid was $1600. I got 2 tickets with my ti(Unregistered Motor Vehicle) and price went up $400 bucks but has now dropped back down. __________________ 98 Avus Blue 318 ti Active clear outs all around, stealth turning signals, blue led interior lights, 35% tinted windows,K&N air filter, 12" Kenwood Sub, MTX Thunder Amp,Alpine cd changer, Leatherz Armrest,ACS Pedals/Handbrake/FloorMats & Vitesse Tuning Carbon Fiber B-Pillars/CF Spark Plug Cover, New 16" MSW Typer 14 Rims on Goodyear Triple Treds www.myspace.com/avusblueti | | | 10-07-2005, 06:14 PM | #22 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2005 Location: England Posts: 177 | Yeah we got it bad over here! If you add even a spoiler youre supposed to tell them about, then the insurance bumps! | | | 10-07-2005, 06:36 PM | #23 | Member Join Date: Jul 2005 Location: home Posts: 34 | Tyler your spec wouldnt hike the insurance a serious amount over here.Turn signals and smallish interior mods wouldnt be a problem, its when you start putting on bigger wheels, spoilers, performance exhaust systems and the like which can up the premium considerably. Still if you are young you do get shafted a bit for insurance over here on higher grouped cars. | | | 10-07-2005, 06:52 PM | #24 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2005 Location: England Posts: 177 | Hell Yeah! actually get this- when i was 17 and bought my first car (1.3 escort) for £150, called tesco insurance, they quoted me £4100!!!!!!!!!! third pary fire and theft! cunts! | | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
