Default Trim panel under steering column

I need to install my cruise control switch on steering column and i wonder if there is any way to take out the lower trim out without taking off the steering wheel. I have pulled out the plastic screw that sits on the middle of it but i think is still fastened somehow under the steering wheel.

Default

There are two pins that snap the sides together. I just snapped them apart and pulled the lower portion out from under the steering wheel. I added cruise control, and don't think taking off the steering wheel was necessary. Then again, removing the steering wheel is easy enough.
