Default Fuel tank

I'm suspecting crud in the fuel tank.
I'm going to replace my fuel filter again and if there is crap in it I'm thinking that there is corrosion in the tank.

What should I know?

The tank is made of plastic and the corrosion maybe came off from the fuel pump/fuel gauge floaters. Check on both side, the left side and the right side. There are two options: 1.Remove the tank and drain upside down. 2. Open both to the opening and try to suck the most fuel and corrosion you can get. When I cleaned the tank of my project car, I took the second option and I found where the corrosion came from. And I replaced the fuel filter after. About the crud fuel, I have some story to tell, when I was deploy somewhere and we have a commercial vehicle (not the issue one - military), one of our man filled up with crud fuel, the vehicle start but it shut down after a few minutes. Our vehicle should only take unleaded fuel not like the military issue vehicle takes everything. If you car have crud, I think your car will not run anymore. Good luck.

Good to know. Sounds like my project for tomorrow.
There is a fair amount of rust on the bottom of this car.

Pulled the sender and the pump.
Didn't look like any corrosion. Probably original pump though.
I did find a lot of sand under the seat.
I also suspected that this car may have been under water.

I'm going to replace the fuel filter again

Steven, any crud or material inside the tank? If the pump is out and the tank isn't full, you can swab the bottom with a lint free cloth secured to a stick to see whats at the bottom of the tank.

At least you won't wonder later.

Hadn't thought about that.
I have 1/4 tank of fuel in there.
It was clean below the left sender unit.

I'll check it out before putting the covers back on.

The fuel pump has a filter sack attached to it on the suction inlet in the bottom.
Is the filter sack plugged?

The screen looked good.
Scraped the bottom of the tank. Seemed OK.
Replaced the gas filter to be on the safe side.
Everything looked clean.

When I was installed the new filter this may have dropped out of the fuel line or filter.
I don't remember that being in my catch pan.

That's part of the flux capacitor assembly.
