Metric mechanic sells performance versions of those parts, might be a little more expensive than other aftermarket brands.

the original bmw replacments i'm pricing at $260 each, i cant believe that's right, unless they mean $260 for the set of four.

after searching it appears that ks is the oem and only manufacturer of these pistons. maybe aside from metric mechanic which has performance versions for $230 each.

Well each set of rings are around $180 for each piston so I can imagine that range. M42 pistons are forged if I'm not mistaken. And I've read that some ppl used m43 pistons too or it may be the rods. It's been too long since I stumbled upon the place I read it at.

bmw quoted me $50 on each set of rings, and $260 on each piston. I know they are made by ks so going direct can save a few bucks here and there but not significant, I am looking at used pistons from a 1997 z3, anyone know if those are identical, to my 1998 ti?

M44 motors in the 318ti, 318i,318is, and z3 1.9L are all the same. So they should fit with no questions. Even the m42 pistons should work if I'm not mistaken. But other members have more in depth knowledge about that (of the m42 pistons)

If you use realoem.com. It will help you cross reference the motors and part numbers. But if you want to build a motor from different ones then that is another story
