318 TI - Instrument clarification

Hello Folks,

I recently bought my BMW 318 TI which was unfortunately made for the Japanese market so the manuals are in Japanese too.

Next to the gear stick, I have an instrument that has 3 buttons M, E and S. Does anyone know what they are for?

Someone mentioned for winter and summer driving but I don't think that's true. Any help would be appreciated.

And for those interested I got my sunroof to close. The dealer said you have to ensure you don't take it too far back or else it goes off the runners. Then you can't mechanically or electrically retract it without professional help. Good tip for anyone who has recently bought a 318 TI with a sunroof.
