Default WMD 456 Supercharger Kit for the M44, M43, M42 Engines (Hyde Motor Works Project)

Welcome back gentlemen!

This will be about the Hyde Motor Works WMD 456 Supercharger Kit project. Made for the 4 Cylinder engines found on the 318Ti, 316Ti, the 318I and the Z3.

About 2 years ago, in the summer of 2019 I bought this little red 318Ti with an M44 Engine. I fell in love with that little car and I decided that our company should supercharge it. The design was undertaken by me and I started a thread titled the ultimate supercharger DIY for the M44, M42 & M43 engines, found here: http://www.318ti.org/forum/showthread.php?t=44651.

Back then, We built 2 SC kits, one based on the AMR500 (for less than 5 PSI) and the other based around the SC14, that would be good for 10-15PSI on our engines, making it the largest displacement blower offered for these cars. There was also a 3rd Kit, that never left the prototype stages. Well, the WMD 456 does just that, it carries on the Legacy of the V4 MOAB and expands on it.

WMD stands Werner M. Designs, Werner is based in Ireland and is one of our engineers who has been working on this project since last year. We plan to come to be able to release this kit by early next year.

The setup uses the Eaton M45 from the BMW Mini & The Mercedes Compressor, along with future support for the Eaton M62 as well. Without much further ado.. Let me present you all with some pictures of the W.M.D. 456.

More information on our projects and products can always be found on https://hydemotorworks.com

Hope you guys enjoy the pictures and development, do let me know what you think. I will add to this thread as we go along!

Ah its easy enough to put it on as it is. If you can change a wheel, you can do this. Just a mater of time. The thing to focus on would be to find a good tuner though.

Hi some basic questions if I may.

I have an E30 318is with the M42 engine.

I want to supercharge it, I am not after big power, just some boost to make it a little more fun but I'm certainly not chasing figures.

I think the M45 would be the best kit for me as here in the UK they are readily available. What else after the purchase of your kit is needed?

Thanks

Hey Guys hope you are well!

@YODI

The 318is with the M42 will be fine, its a better engine in terms of holding more power. Our M45 would see you easily 7-10PSI. If you push it, maybe more.

The Kitself will include all the hardware and piping, you could buy the silicone hose kit from us or just buy yourself a intercooler piping kit locally and pipe it all, you will require a by pass valve, a boost gauge, larger injectors and a wideband o2 sensor along with a tune is suggested. Our UK resellers would be happy to help with Tuning and such: https://hydemotorworks.com/our-resellers/

Small note: We are phasing out the older V4 MOAB M45 and M62 Kits in favour as mentioned above for the new M45 Kits that are more streamlined. The AMR500 and SC14 maintain their own line and are all fine, only the Eaton kits are being redesigned.

Also: Just replied to a private message from Julian, in Germany. His Private messages were disabled so had to email him.

super interesting project!

have been having a look around at supercharger kits for a few months but the GKD and DASC kits have the same problem, no intercooling availability unless you want to do a bunch of re-engineering, plus I really wouldn't want to relocate batteries on a RHD car.

have 2 questions:

are you planning on relocating the battery to the boot to make space for pipework etc?

and having had a quick look at the website linked mentions a bit about "built" engines, having seen a few "ghetto" turbo m44 builds, they tend to get away with pushing 12-14psi on stock long blocks with FMU type management and any more than that they like to spin rod bearings, what would you suggest as a built engine?

excited to see some more progression and updates in the near future, perhaps even some testing

Wow, I didn't know you guys are testing new kit for m45. I was looking for your kit for quite some time. I just bought used eaton m45 from Mini and still thinking about buying your kit or doing it myself. If you're getting rid of old ones (for reduced price) let me know.
What will be the main difference between new and old kit?
Thanks.
