This past week, I did a 110 mile run on the interstate, keeping the car right on 65 mph with cruise control and some A/C use and actually got a 35.3 mpg average out of my OBC! Some of these Japanese car makers seem to be bragging about the fuel efficiency of their new models. Nissan for example is boasting 28, 29, 31 mpg. Well, BFD! We are driving 10, 11, 12, and 13 year old cars with respectable performance and we're still beating those estimates! Just an idea. | | | 07-02-2008, 12:12 AM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2007 Location: asdfasdf Posts: 10,002 | not too be a douche or pick on the new guy but: http://www.318ti.org/forum/showthread.php?t=10222& I actually had to search pretty hard to find it so I don't blame you for not noticing it | | | 07-02-2008, 12:44 AM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Saint Paul, MN Posts: 3,244 | My best was just under 36mpg over a 200+ mile drive in 60 degree weather, which is right about the sweet spot. Seems like fuel economy really goes down either hot or cold. And with my sticky summer tires. __________________ My Former Rides 1999 318ti Alpine White, Cali Roof, Dinan goodies 1996 318ti Hellrot California Edition | | | 07-02-2008, 01:18 AM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2006 Location: San Diego Posts: 231 | 25 overall. Now all the stations have up to 10% ethanol and my MPG has dropped to the 32.8 - 33.4 range. | | | 07-02-2008, 02:07 AM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2007 Location: asdfasdf Posts: 10,002 | well, since everyone's posting here anyways, I typically get 20-25 mpg | | | 07-02-2008, 04:32 AM | #8 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2008 Location: Nevada Posts: 259 | I'm averaging just around 28 combined freeway/town. I get 29.5 after a good wax job though If I'm into the dasc and having 'fun' it drops a few like 24 or 25. I don't use the OBC of course...just simple math I haven't had a chance to go for distance yet. Talk to me after my 3.15 diff, new wheels bearings and full tune up. | | | 07-02-2008, 04:42 AM | #9 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2006 Location: Central NJ Posts: 2,440 | My last 171 miles I got 47.1 mpg. I never exceeded 60 mph (even on the interstate). The key was to stay in the far right lane while truck passed me allowing a draft to lower my wind resistance. Also my tires are at 37 psi. Oh I love the ti! | | | 07-02-2008, 04:47 AM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2008 Location: Nevada Posts: 259 | ^Don't you mean 37 'cause I'd bet my left nut your not getting 47 M P G....maybe K P G. Obviously your kidding doh | | | 07-02-2008, 04:50 AM | #11 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2006 Location: Central NJ Posts: 2,440 | No, I mean 47... take a look at the picture. When I gassed up after that, it came out to be ~47 miles per gallon. In the second picture, when I filled up, the needle was on the far right white line exactly. I reset the trip like I always do. If I take it to Wisconsin Thursday Ill report what kind of mileage I get. __________________ "Drive Fast and Take Chances" | | | 07-02-2008, 06:48 AM | #13 | Member Join Date: Mar 2008 Location: MA Posts: 76 | My last two tanks have been 34 mpg hand calculated. This was about an equal mix of city and highway. It should go up a fair amount once I change the air filter and do some basic engine maintenance. I am still dreaming of a 2.93 medium case lsd. That would be good for at least 40 mpg on the highway! | | | 07-02-2008, 06:58 AM | #14 | Junior Member Join Date: Aug 2006 Location: Atlanta, GA Posts: 18 | Quote: I HIT 122,000 TODAY! Woot!! | CONGRATS!!! I remember when I hit 111,111 on the interstate and just happened to look down at the odometer. I tried to take a picture with my phone, but it turned out all blurry... so sad. I get about 26 in the city with some spirited driving and 30 or 31 on the interstate going between 70 and 75 mph. Drafting trucks really does help, but you don't want to get too close! haha __________________ Kalin /// 95' Alpine Base Ti Current Mods: 17" Gunmetal Gray M// Replicas w/ chrome rivets, BavAuto wheel locks, K&N air filter, tinted windows, Sony Xplod Bluetooth Head Unit, Polk db speakers Future Mods: M3 bumper, white trim, foglights, short shifter, Koni struts, H&R springs, 318ti.org stickers | | | 07-02-2008, 07:00 AM | #15 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2004 Location: Minneapolis Posts: 1,587 | I went from a 4.44 to a 3.45 and the mpg is just slightly better. Maybe 1-2 mpg on average. | | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
