Finally got around to doing the install. Tried to start the car, no start. Put the stock chip back in and car starts right up. Is there anything special about the clubsport electronics like EWS that needs to be reset. Any suggestions. Also what are the markings on the chip? Nothing unique about a CS compared to any other M42. No bent pins? Previous owner could have installed it backwards and fried the puppy. __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 05-23-2009, 06:32 AM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2003 Location: Walnut Creek, CA Posts: 642 | When I got my Dinan chip the EWS needed to be aligned by the dealer before it would start. __________________ '95 330ti CS w/sr delete, S50USB30, cams, 24# inj, Conforti SW, Euro HFM, Samco Silicone Intake Boot, BBTB, Euro Oil Cooler, JTD CAI Duct, RE DMS exhaust, RE Tranny mounts, CF Valve Cover, LTW flywheel/Kevlar sprung hub clutch, RE SSK, 3.46 Finned LSD (M6) , M3 tranny, Brembos, RE Wheel Studs, SS brake/clutch lines, CF interior, Rear Headrest retrofit, Tilt Steering retrofit, 13.5 lb DynaBatt in rear, LED interior/footwell lights, ZKW HID, Headlight Aim Control, Rear fog light w/cluster indicator, CF 3 Aux gauge pod, BMW Traffic Pro/Alpine MP3-CD Changer, Staggered LTW wheels, '95 M3 steering rack, VIS CF Hood, M3 LTW Strut Bar, TCK SA coilovers, Red LTW Motorsport Seatbelts, OEM Fire Extinguisher, Z8 Starter button, Auto dim rear view mirror w/ Homelink/Compass, PDC, Rear Sun Shade, Euro Gauge Cluster w/oil temp/shift light , Headlight Washers, "Motorsport" Door Handles, CF Grills, French ZKW Fogs, Euro dash bins, Power Lumbar Support is next, Coming e39 M5 interior light, Bimmer Magazine 8/2007 | | | 05-23-2009, 10:38 AM | #4 | Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Dublin, Pa Posts: 57 | The pins all look good to me. What would a bent pin do? I did install it with the notch in the correct orientation. Does anyone have an image of what the conforti chip looks like? The "conforti" chip that I have looks like this one. The numbers on the chip are 1 267 356 548 How can I tell if my car has EWS. I know my 1995 318ti has it. __________________ '95 330ti CS w/sr delete, S50USB30, cams, 24# inj, Conforti SW, Euro HFM, Samco Silicone Intake Boot, BBTB, Euro Oil Cooler, JTD CAI Duct, RE DMS exhaust, RE Tranny mounts, CF Valve Cover, LTW flywheel/Kevlar sprung hub clutch, RE SSK, 3.46 Finned LSD (M6) , M3 tranny, Brembos, RE Wheel Studs, SS brake/clutch lines, CF interior, Rear Headrest retrofit, Tilt Steering retrofit, 13.5 lb DynaBatt in rear, LED interior/footwell lights, ZKW HID, Headlight Aim Control, Rear fog light w/cluster indicator, CF 3 Aux gauge pod, BMW Traffic Pro/Alpine MP3-CD Changer, Staggered LTW wheels, '95 M3 steering rack, VIS CF Hood, M3 LTW Strut Bar, TCK SA coilovers, Red LTW Motorsport Seatbelts, OEM Fire Extinguisher, Z8 Starter button, Auto dim rear view mirror w/ Homelink/Compass, PDC, Rear Sun Shade, Euro Gauge Cluster w/oil temp/shift light , Headlight Washers, "Motorsport" Door Handles, CF Grills, French ZKW Fogs, Euro dash bins, Power Lumbar Support is next, Coming e39 M5 interior light, Bimmer Magazine 8/2007 | | | 05-23-2009, 05:21 PM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Greenville, SC Posts: 9,356 | Quote: Originally Posted by bmwtinut The pins all look good to me. Bending a pin can cause it to break right at the body making it completely unusable if that pin actually used. Be careful about not breaking what looks like a resistor pack. I have done that in the past. If you use a screwdriver, rock both sides out slightly and gently. Prying it from one side can cause the pins to bend and you don't want to cut any traces below the socket. __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 05-23-2009, 05:50 PM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2006 Location: Wisconsin Posts: 1,895 | According to the number, your chip is for a 1991-1992 5 series. I don't know anything about how these chips work, but it seems like the wrong car to me. __________________ ... ʎɐqǝ uo pɹɐoqʎǝʞ ɐ ʎnq ı ǝɯıʇ ʇsɐן ǝɥʇ sı sıɥʇ | | | 05-23-2009, 06:50 PM | #8 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2007 Location: norcal - 94590 Posts: 3,186 | I take it that the picture is not of your car/chip because the chip number is different... I'm no expert, but IIRC, there is a difference between what chips will work based on build date, not model year... If I'm wrong, please correct me, but I think the production date changeover is 11/94... Pre 11/94 is non-ews (possibly)? __________________ James 95 active w/leather interior and sport interior conversion, Vaders, full M-Tech exterior conversion. Later year model cars have an ECU that ends with part number- 282. There is a different chip from Conforti for the different ECUs. Compare the ECUs from the two different cars to see what the part numbers are. I think most club sports were produced later in the year, and use 282 ECUs, but I don't know that for sure. No alignment is needed with the proper Conforti chip. I'm not sure why the dinan chips needed to be aligned, other than the dealer is typically the retailer for this chip. | | | 05-24-2009, 01:48 AM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2003 Location: Walnut Creek, CA Posts: 642 | Quote: Originally Posted by mohaughn Cars from 95 can have two different ECUs. I would not put it past them, but in my case, I took the chips home and installed them myself and no start. The dealer confirmed that EWS aligbment would not be needed. However, they were wrong and aligned the EWS and Dinan chip free of charge, so they had no monetary incentive to do the alignment. __________________ '95 330ti CS w/sr delete, S50USB30, cams, 24# inj, Conforti SW, Euro HFM, Samco Silicone Intake Boot, BBTB, Euro Oil Cooler, JTD CAI Duct, RE DMS exhaust, RE Tranny mounts, CF Valve Cover, LTW flywheel/Kevlar sprung hub clutch, RE SSK, 3.46 Finned LSD (M6) , M3 tranny, Brembos, RE Wheel Studs, SS brake/clutch lines, CF interior, Rear Headrest retrofit, Tilt Steering retrofit, 13.5 lb DynaBatt in rear, LED interior/footwell lights, ZKW HID, Headlight Aim Control, Rear fog light w/cluster indicator, CF 3 Aux gauge pod, BMW Traffic Pro/Alpine MP3-CD Changer, Staggered LTW wheels, '95 M3 steering rack, VIS CF Hood, M3 LTW Strut Bar, TCK SA coilovers, Red LTW Motorsport Seatbelts, OEM Fire Extinguisher, Z8 Starter button, Auto dim rear view mirror w/ Homelink/Compass, PDC, Rear Sun Shade, Euro Gauge Cluster w/oil temp/shift light , Headlight Washers, "Motorsport" Door Handles, CF Grills, French ZKW Fogs, Euro dash bins, Power Lumbar Support is next, Coming e39 M5 interior light, Bimmer Magazine 8/2007 | | | 06-01-2009, 09:14 AM | #11 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2007 Location: MA Posts: 163 | my 11/94 318i (not ti) uses a 357 ecu and no EWS, just for reference | | | 06-01-2009, 08:52 PM | #12 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2008 Location: Sacramento Posts: 245 | FWIW, im not sure thats a conforti chip pictured.
