Default Winter tires question

So I'm up here in Vermont.. and the ti is unfortunately all I have, so I'll be running it this winter. Has anyone ran their ti in the snow? how is it? I use to drive my mom's tbird in the winter way back in the day.. and I HATED rwd in the winter..

Question:
I currently have those ugly bottle cap style wheels on my car with 205/60/15's. I know someone getting rid of a pair of winter studded tires that are 205/70/15.. would these fit on the ti? or do you think they would rub?

Thanks in advance,
Derrick

They should only be about an inch and a half bigger in diameter. I don't think that they would rub, but I can't be sure.

I am in Up state New York and so far it has been a blast with the car. I am running some Blizzaks(sp?) Having a abs sensor out makes it much more fun haha Never have a problem with it going up hills or anything...except deep snow. I am actually taking it to Burlington this Monday when we are expected to get all of that snow..should be interesting

i'm running pirelli snow sports, also have a LSD, and i'm having no troubles ripping around. It's a blast to drive a manual in snow.

Great, I feel a lot better knowing it handles good in the snow.

Any other thoughts on whether or not 205/70/15's will rub?

What size are you guys running?

Thanks again!
Derrick

are you lowered or anything? i don't think you'll ever rub w/ those...

if you face a lot of snow in the winter, consider having something like 185s. they give you better mobility in snow.

On driving in the snow--the ti handles well thanks to the weight balance. It's still RWD so drive it like one and you'll be okay. Hills can be a problem though.

Yeah no joke. Id just avoid driving on hills altogether. Scout ahead of time a route that has as few hills as possible and make note of those that are consistently plowed. I got stuck on a hill once and had to push my car down the hill just to get out.

Stock M-sport. Is M-sport lower than base model? Different springs right?

Thanks for the tips too guys!

Has anyone on here actually ever ran a sidewall height of 70?

205 x .7 = 143.5
143.5 x 2 = 287
287 x (15 x 25.4) = 668mm

I have 225/50/16 and its at 631.4mm So that means yours are over 1" higher. I think that may be a little close, but I'm no tire expert..

Okay, I have found another guy here locally selling 4 wheels and tires that he believes came off a bmw 3 series. They are 4 Blizzak 215/60/R16 tires mounted on black steel wheels. Would these fit fine?

Thank you all, I appreciate your help.

215 x .6 = 129
129 x 2 = 258
258 + (16 x 25.4) = 664.4 - 631.4 = 33mm > 1"
(25.4mm=1")

Still over an 1". I really can't answer whether or not they will rub. The space inbetween my tires and fender looks to be more than an inch, but like I said, I'm no tire expert at all.

So let me get this straight...

I found another set locally. They are 4 17" AT Italia wheels (contour knockoffs) with Dunolop Wintersport 225/50/17's.

They would be exactly 1" bigger than what you are running.. do you think you have more than 1" clearence?

225/50/17

225 x .5 = 112.5
112.5 x 2 = 225
225 x (17 x 25.4) = 656.8 - 631.4 = 25.4 = 1"
