All I need to do now is swap the clocks and run a wire from the clocks to the ECU to stop it revving at 5500rpm Before: During: After: | | | 05-14-2012, 04:07 PM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2010 Location: Scranton/Wilkes-barre area PA Posts: 454 | Haha nice I like how you did that! __________________ ***Derek*** ^^Lola^^ Pioneer radio/ Pioneer 6-Disk CD Changer/ JBL 601.1 Grand Touring Amplifier/ Bilstein Sport shocks/ Bilstein e36sedan springs/ Green LED Courtesy Lights Accident Counter: 3... | | | 05-15-2012, 01:07 AM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2004 Location: Sydney, Australia Posts: 593 | Grats man! We had the Compact up on axle stands and then lifted it a few more inches by hand/shoulders in the arch's high enough to get the old engine out underneath & then did the same but in reverse to put the 2.8 in using the trolley/dolly t | | | 05-15-2012, 06:20 PM | #6 | Moderator Join Date: Mar 2007 Location: Maryland Posts: 3,220 | if you haven't already, swap out the 318 instrument cluster for the 328 cluster, that should correct the RPM reading | | | 05-16-2012, 11:16 AM | #7 | Junior Member Join Date: May 2011 Location: Kent Posts: 19 | Quote: Originally Posted by BMW_Hatchback if you haven't already, swap out the 318 instrument cluster for the 328 cluster, that should correct the RPM reading | On the 'To do' list for this weekend Also needing to run a wire from the clocks to the ECU to stop it revving it at 5500rpm | | | 05-21-2012, 09:29 PM | #8 | Moderator Join Date: Mar 2007 Location: Maryland Posts: 3,220 | I don't recall having that issue | | | 05-22-2012, 11:37 AM | #9 | Junior Member Join Date: May 2011 Location: Kent Posts: 19 | Seems to be a fairly common issue as the ECU isn't receiving a signal from the speed sensor which was on the donor cars diff so it goes into a limp mode, stopping the engine from revving past something like 5100 rpm - all fixed now though, clocks in and revving to the redline. | | | 05-22-2012, 02:23 PM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: Jan 2005 Location: Louisiana Posts: 1,093 | Right hand drive ? Same question for rear differential and axle shafts. | | | 07-20-2012, 10:41 AM | #13 | Junior Member Join Date: May 2011 Location: Kent Posts: 19 | From memory disconnected: ARB mountings Lower arms from body engine wiring loom Top mounts Radiator/coolant pipes Basically anything that was connecting the engine to the body. Using the 328 gearbox & front half of the prop, this fitted directly to the 318 prop - using the 318Ti diff and shafts. | | | 07-20-2012, 02:56 PM | #14 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2008 Location: Globally Posts: 1,162 | That an Aluminium M52? If so the car is probably pretty close to original weight. Are you relocating the battery to the rear? | | | 07-20-2012, 03:01 PM | #15 | Junior Member Join Date: May 2011 Location: Kent Posts: 19 | Yep aluminium M52 - battery is staying where it is, I've got an E36 M3 track/race car too - this was just done for a bit of fun and is my daily/shopping car Quote: Originally Posted by M-technik-3 That an Aluminium M52?
