Default Engine Rebuild Kits

I got a quote from Bavarian engine exchange for a complete engine rebuild kit for $1525.00. Does this seem like a good price? Where else can I buy an engine rebuild kit?

The kits include all internal parts to completely rebuild the engine. All Engine Kits include our exclusive MaxSil BMW Pistons with Tefcote, Sealed Power rings, OEM rod bearings, main bearings, complete gasket kit, timing chain, timing chain rails, and head bolts. All internal parts are OEM or better. All parts carry our five year unlimited mileage warranty.

This seems a bit expensive. I would keep looking around or see if you can buy the part individually.

lol your making it sound like your getting a hell out of a deal. Thats the dealers price, 3700. Not cuz the mechanic is getting it for you that price. That IS the price. When i was looking for an engine when mine blew, i was thinking of same thing, going brand new. Someone i know also that has his own shop, was gonna get me a brand new m44 from the dealer for 3,500 with taxes included and shipping.

It doesn't need park distance control, and hates decadence. It is musclepacked, yet lightly wound. It lets you feel the asphalt and get you going with the smallest touch of the pedal. It provokes, seduces, and demands to be driven hard. It looks, sounds, and smells like performance.

What do you think your going to get in the "brand new" motor that your won't get in a quality rebuild?

Go to the nearest race track , find all the BMW guys you can and ask who does their motors. For the price the dealer is quoting you I suspect you could have about 160 HP normally aspirated from a good rebuilder. OR a engine optimised for the DASC, WITH a much smaller drive pully in otherwords lots "o" boost.

I wasnt trying to make it sound like a hell of a deal. I was in no way expressing that. I was more surprised at the cost of a new engine compared to the rebuilt engines from bavarian engine exchange. That being said, what route did you take to replace your engine? Used, rebuilt, or new?

Just the idea of a brand new engine sounds good to me. I would be willing to put a used engine in my car or pay someone to rebuild my engine, I just havent had any luck finding anyone who is willing to rebuild the engine. I only have one car and I can't afford to have my car off the road for more than a few days. I currently have 204,700 mile on my car and I want to supercharge it, but I don't want to risk it with that many miles on the engine. Looking for options that will cost less than the new engine.

yes i know this is old, but does anyone else have any opinions? its seems like a lot of money could be saved if new pistons wernt bought?

Why don't you get the rebuilt one from Bavarian Engine Exchange. It's only $4,472 with the performance option which they claim gives you a 20% horsepower increase. By my math that's an additional 28 horsepower (assuming 140 is the correct stock number). That's 168 right there with no worries.
