Anyway it's the Engine Under Guard Cover, the place where i took my car told me it was missing,i don't think it's misiing we just didn't have one. __________________ 98 Avus Blue 318 ti Active clear outs all around, stealth turning signals, blue led interior lights, 35% tinted windows,K&N air filter, 12" Kenwood Sub, MTX Thunder Amp,Alpine cd changer, Leatherz Armrest,ACS Pedals/Handbrake/FloorMats & Vitesse Tuning Carbon Fiber B-Pillars/CF Spark Plug Cover, New 16" MSW Typer 14 Rims on Goodyear Triple Treds www.myspace.com/avusblueti | | | 01-26-2006, 12:22 AM | #2 | aka Stabby Join Date: Nov 2004 Location: Mead, CO Posts: 5,336 | you have a pic or link or anything? __________________ 1996 318ti, California package, 267k miles current mods: bilstein sports, bavauto springs, e30 m3 LCABs, solid metal ball joints, bavauto RSMs w/reinforcements, e30 3.73 LSD & halfshafts, supersprint cat-back exhaust, turner rear sway bar reinforcements, IE poly subframe & RTABs + camber/toe kits, powdercoated e36 32x front calipers, sport mirrors, H&R 28mmF/19mmR sway bars, x-brace, auto solutions SSK w/poly bushing upgrade, BMW CD43 head unit, DICE HD Radio w/iPod integration and "stealth" HD antenna, staggered style 68s, orange electronic TPMS, leather arm rest, JT Designs metal undertray acquired and awaiting install: heated seat kit, cali top switch relo, lumbar support kit, park distance control kit, heated washer nozzle kit, m-coupe rear subframe, trailing arms, differential, and halfshafts, m-coupe front/rear brakes with master cylinder, under hood light kit, mud flaps, rear sun blind, auto-dimming rear view mirror, tilt steering wheel retrofit, apexcone 5000K HIDs with 55W ballasts 2002 X5 4.4 Sport Package, 53.5k miles Current Mods: e46 m3 steering wheel | | | 01-26-2006, 12:29 AM | #3 | TRETEN IRGENDEINES ESELS Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: Rhode Island Posts: 3,687 | No i don't,they just told me it was missing. From what my dad says it's supposed to cover from the bumper all the way to just after the oil pan. I'm clueless on this. I wouldn't mind putting one in if possible. __________________ 98 Avus Blue 318 ti Active clear outs all around, stealth turning signals, blue led interior lights, 35% tinted windows,K&N air filter, 12" Kenwood Sub, MTX Thunder Amp,Alpine cd changer, Leatherz Armrest,ACS Pedals/Handbrake/FloorMats & Vitesse Tuning Carbon Fiber B-Pillars/CF Spark Plug Cover, New 16" MSW Typer 14 Rims on Goodyear Triple Treds www.myspace.com/avusblueti | | | 01-26-2006, 12:54 AM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Greenville, SC Posts: 9,356 | I don't think we have something like that. If that was the case I would not be able to see my sway bar, right? There is a skid plate that covers everything below the engine. __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 01-26-2006, 03:14 AM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: state college, pa Posts: 3,431 | There is an undercarriage cover, but it certainly doesn't go all the way to the oil pan. It essentially protects the radiator and a/c compressor from rocks that might fly up. However, the probability of that happening is ridiculously low. Most of the time, people drive up on curbs etc when parking, and the piece comes off. Dealers do not always replace the part. __________________ I scream, you scream, we all scream for ZOMBIES. | | | 01-26-2006, 03:14 AM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: Jan 2006 Location: Tacompton, WA Posts: 309 | I had a plastic piece underneth but took it off to find out where my car was leaking oil..(still havnt figured it out why its leaking) but other then that im not aware of any other piece __________________ 95 318ti Alpine white, E46 m3 front bumper, Clear Corners, Cosmo CAI, k&n filter, Flowmaster catback, front strut bars, sony 12" sub Kenwood 800watt amp & Aiwa Deck, stickers Future: Angel Eyes, Drop, Rims, and rear bumper 318ti.org sticker (added 100HP) | | | 01-26-2006, 04:18 AM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2005 Location: Laguna Beach Posts: 357 | Under engine covers Here is the link to RealOEM page where the under engine covers and other bits are described. My 318ti doesn't have a cover under the sway bar to the pulleys and yet it looks as though there should be. But this link doesn't show anything like that. I have had to replace most of the pieces under the engine, previous owner ran over a tire on the freeway. http://www.realoem.com/bmw/partgrp.d...06&hg=51&fg=75 | | | 01-26-2006, 04:47 AM | #8 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: state college, pa Posts: 3,431 | Aw crap. Now that I know about this, I'm probably gonna do this instead of cutting a piece of lexan to go underneath. __________________ I scream, you scream, we all scream for ZOMBIES. | | | 01-26-2006, 04:47 AM | #9 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2005 Location: Plano Texas Posts: 206 | My dads e46 323i has a plastic cover under the car. This might be what they were talking about. It is basically to just scare you into not doing anything yourself to the car. I don't think that it helps in any other way. Honestly i hate working on his car cause every time I have to get under it I have to take it of and it is just a hassle. __________________ K&N Cone Filter with Heat Shield, Racing Dynamics Strut bar, Blisten yellow sport suspension, Clears all around, Angel eyes, Dinan Engine Chip, Infinity BassLink 10" Sub, Lightweight Aluminum Flywheel | | | 01-26-2006, 05:18 AM | #10 | aka Stabby Join Date: Nov 2004 Location: Mead, CO Posts: 5,336 | Quote: Originally Posted by 30yrMbr Here is the link to RealOEM page where the under engine covers and other bits are described. IT IS NOT A STOCK PIECE! it's a motorsport part meant (more or less) for offroad. that said, i'm considering that in place of the x-brace for better protection underneath EDIT: also, the protective plate is METAL not plastic. __________________ 1996 318ti, California package, 267k miles current mods: bilstein sports, bavauto springs, e30 m3 LCABs, solid metal ball joints, bavauto RSMs w/reinforcements, e30 3.73 LSD & halfshafts, supersprint cat-back exhaust, turner rear sway bar reinforcements, IE poly subframe & RTABs + camber/toe kits, powdercoated e36 32x front calipers, sport mirrors, H&R 28mmF/19mmR sway bars, x-brace, auto solutions SSK w/poly bushing upgrade, BMW CD43 head unit, DICE HD Radio w/iPod integration and "stealth" HD antenna, staggered style 68s, orange electronic TPMS, leather arm rest, JT Designs metal undertray acquired and awaiting install: heated seat kit, cali top switch relo, lumbar support kit, park distance control kit, heated washer nozzle kit, m-coupe rear subframe, trailing arms, differential, and halfshafts, m-coupe front/rear brakes with master cylinder, under hood light kit, mud flaps, rear sun blind, auto-dimming rear view mirror, tilt steering wheel retrofit, apexcone 5000K HIDs with 55W ballasts 2002 X5 4.4 Sport Package, 53.5k miles Current Mods: e46 m3 steering wheel | | | 01-26-2006, 05:48 AM | #11 | Senior Member Join Date: Jan 2006 Location: Tacompton, WA Posts: 309 | my protective piece is plastic __________________ 95 318ti Alpine white, E46 m3 front bumper, Clear Corners, Cosmo CAI, k&n filter, Flowmaster catback, front strut bars, sony 12" sub Kenwood 800watt amp & Aiwa Deck, stickers Future: Angel Eyes, Drop, Rims, and rear bumper 318ti.org sticker (added 100HP) | | | 01-26-2006, 09:45 PM | #12 | Member Join Date: Jul 2005 Location: Wiltshire, UK Posts: 83 | Quote: Originally Posted by BmWwHiPPin my protective piece is plastic | Same here - a big chunk of plastic covering the whole floor of the engine bay.
