When a motor vehicle with International specs is imported by an individual (not a dealer) into the US, you need to go trough a process called "Federalization". If the car was a Canadian spec car it might be easier but this is a Japan spec car residing in Canada.

The question was for other members that might have info on the subject and get you more chances to sell it in the US.

Anyone has some info on the matter?

I've been around a couple of these which is why I posted the tip about using a professional importer. There is a good old boys club between the importers and the inspection and paperwork folks.

I know there are a couple in Vancouver that specialize in the CA diesel rigs like the land cruiser and the Toyota Jackaroo.

did it through a broker last time with my RX7, and had less problems, and saved a ton of money this time doing it myself. You just need to call customs to get the forms..
