I live near Reading and if you were a bit closer I would take you up. Thanks again!! Quote: Originally Posted by 318_mzk2 Harbor freight is where you want to go for this.. I did buy an engine hoist yesterday from craigslist. Its a 2 ton big red from torin. I paid $100. Good deal I guess. I wanted to pull the motor from the e30 today as its my first day off in almost 2 weeks. Its raining pretty hard and I need the garage door open to pull the motor. Another thing I noticed is I have no chains or load leveler....What the hell was I thinking?? I definitely need a leveler right? Or can I drop the tranny then lift the motor out? Then I would still need some chains. I also noticed only one lifting point on the s52 (front of engine). I need two points to lift right? I guess I won't be getting anything done today.... Chris, I called you today and left a message. __________________ | | | 03-06-2011, 05:27 PM | #19 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2009 Location: nj Posts: 1,099 | hey bro...what i usually do is unbolt the trans and put a jack under it..than use the front lift point ..i use a chain w a nut and bolt. and it does it for me.. start lifting the motor and moving it forward little by little...use the jack under the trans also to help move the trans.. i saw the missed call..i dint know who it was.my voice mail isn't activated __________________ 318ti MZK2 | | | 03-06-2011, 05:39 PM | #20 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2005 Location: PA Posts: 1,906 | Give me a call if you still want the cabrio. So, you remove the trans from the engine? Remember that the e30 front doesn't come apart like an e36 does. In theory, I should be able to drop the trans from the motor then pull the motor straight up? __________________ | | | 03-06-2011, 05:54 PM | #21 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2009 Location: nj Posts: 1,099 | i leave everything attached together.. i seen a couple guys pull it all together they lift it all the way up and it just comes out straight...i think you might have it easier since the oil pan thing isn't in the way like in the e36.... idk how i would end up getting the cabrio my dad sold his pick up truck and have now way to get a dolly or take anything __________________ 318ti MZK2 | | | 03-12-2011, 03:50 AM | #22 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2005 Location: PA Posts: 1,906 | I started back up tonight, I drained and removed the radiator and I think I'll be ready to pull the engine in the morning. I only noticed the forward lifting eye. Where is the rear lifting eye? Starter? I didn't have alot of light so maybe I over looked it. Thanks! __________________ Last edited by Platanos; 03-12-2011 at 04:58 AM. | | | 03-12-2011, 04:51 PM | #23 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2005 Location: PA Posts: 1,906 | Having a little bit of trouble this morning Sent from my stupid incredible using Forum Runner __________________ | | | 03-12-2011, 05:16 PM | #24 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2005 Location: PA Posts: 1,906 | And the S52 is out! I'm amazed you got it out with a load leveler attached to the hoist, under the garage door! Great job! The guy I bought my motor from told me to use the driver engine mount and back of the exhaust manifold with a strap and it balances it just right, worked like a charm for putting it in for sure. That way you don't need a leveler (though you need to jack up the transmission tail) The strap rests against the intake manifold, but it's not really putting much pressure on it and is fine... If you want a little more clearance next time. I have heard wreckers pull the whole thing out with just the front hook hole alone! Don't think I'll be trying that one though. | | | 03-12-2011, 07:24 PM | #28 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2009 Location: nj Posts: 1,099 | Quote: Originally Posted by Junk Wow! I had to let it down on the rad support area to re-pick it, but it worked out fine.
