sounds like a starter, that or the anti-theft is acting up

I once saw a post where someone had a bad antenna ring and the cold weathr somehow affected it. Since you have a code for the EWS you might try jiggling he antenna ring or inspecting the wiring under column there.

Since you have a EWS code I would replace the antenna ring. They are cheep and it will most likely take care of your issue. If not you will need a new EWS unit and have it alligned to your DME and keys.

Well if the lights and such light up with the key, how about the CEL in the ON position. If not, get a jumper cable and attach one end to the engine and the other to the chassis ground/or battery.
