Default 97 sporadic starting issues

Back in January I bought my daughter a 97 318ti. Started having starting issues after she drove in snow. Temperature doesn't matter. I would be able to go out and start it with no issues one day, later that evening wouldn't start. I would have to give it gas and after a few minutes it would fire. This has been going on since January. Last Thursday and Friday I started it 40 times with no issues. Sunday would not start at all. Sounds like the engine has a misfire. So far I replaced fuel pump, fuel filter, cam sensor, air idle valve, spark plugs. There is 45lbs of pressure at the fuel rail. Took valve cover off today. The timing marks line up where they are suppose to. What am I missing?

Do you have a Check Engine light on? If it is any sort of misfire, the CEL will be on. If the CEL is on, post the codes.

I had a misfire last week because the coilpack was bad, but it still started. (i even started it with 2 out of 4 cylinders not working.) So the misfire might be unrelated to the starting issue unless its fuel related.

When you try to start it, does the motor crank and turn but just doesnt get fuel, or does it just make a click sound and do nothing?

It could be so many things really, so we gotta narrow it down.

It could be something as dumb as a bad ground or bad battery, or something more complicated like a bad EWS (shuts off fuel pump to prevent theft) or DME (controls everything but they can get wet and go bad).

Here's is another mystery. When the issue started a few months ago, there was no check engine light. While driving it last week it did come on. I had it checked out, cam sensor, engine coolant temp, and air idle valve. All have been replaced. The car cranks, then seems do die out then you hear a thunk. Turn off the key off then try starting again same results. When it would do this, i would give it a little gas, she fired then died, started again gave it gas then ran good. I tried a new battery, same results. The DME compartment was dry. All four spark plugs had gas on them.
