Its totally different worlds, using a brand new all season compared to a brand new winter tire. Also, do all four corners. __________________ 1995 Hellrot Clubsport 318ti -Gone 1996 Schwartz II Sport 357ti - 5.7L V8 LS1/6 1997 Moregrun Metallic 318ti - Gone 1998 Schwartz II sport 318ti - M50TUB25/5 | | | 12-15-2009, 04:21 PM | #17 | Junior Member Join Date: Nov 2008 Location: Pa. Posts: 19 | I just bought four 205/55/16 Winterforce for my daughters 318TI. Then I did the research on the board Do you think she'll be ok w/them (dry roads/hi-ways)? 17 year old driver Or should I take thenm off & get the Blizzak WS-60s? | | | 12-15-2009, 10:00 PM | #18 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2008 Location: Globally Posts: 1,162 | Winterforce are decent winter tires and you can stud them. I have them on an E30 and had no issues last year. You have to drive with common sense, even dimwits with 4x4's and all wheel drive get stuck. | | | 12-15-2009, 11:13 PM | #19 | Member Join Date: Dec 2006 Location: Ohio Posts: 58 | I bought Blizzaks for my son and they are so great. We had a small amount of snow and ice when I drove it home they were like night and day to the Yoko's he has on them. I was so impressed I bought them for my wife's 323i. That was his Christmas present and 17 th birthday present so he could drive to school over the winter more. I hope everyone has a safe Christmas and New Year driving slowly in the weather. | | | 12-16-2009, 01:37 AM | #20 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2007 Location: asdfasdf Posts: 10,002 | Winterforce are a decent tire, they should be fine | | | 12-16-2009, 03:03 AM | #21 | Junior Member Join Date: Nov 2008 Location: Pa. Those of you with young drivers in the family, send them to a Street Survival winter school. http://streetsurvival.org/ Best $60 you'll ever spend. Those of you without young drivers, that's what CCA winter schools are for. And yeah, always do all four corners, and skinny tires. My '98 Sport gets 185/65 in the winter (Michelin XIce2 in this case), versus 225/50 summer, and it is a little snowbeast here in Minnesota. And great fun with the AST switched off... | | | 12-20-2009, 03:29 PM | #23 | Junior Member Join Date: Nov 2008 Location: Pa. Posts: 19 | Got to REALLY try out the Winterforce! We just got 23" of snow & the 318 is the only thing we own w/snow tire(brand new/last week ). I had it out till 8pm last night(Market,Best Buy,Auto Zone, running teens around & mother in laws-twice). I never got stuck. The tracksion control worked great. I dont have a owners manual for the car.Unfamiliar w/the 4l30e trans. The "A" & "M" on the console.I kept the car in 3rd w/the "M" on.Is that the correct way? | | | 12-24-2009, 12:15 AM | #24 | Member Join Date: Sep 2009 Location: Bowling Green, OH Posts: 75 | Yea I will swear by Winterforces too. I had them on my ti partially used and studded with half the studs still in there. 205's. Thats not the stock size for the 15" rims but seems to be common size (even tho I can get them in the stock 185 width). With a LSD, I never got stuck. It was like a snowmobile. They are pretty worn out now and I am going to replace them in jan with the same (53 bucks ea on tirerack.) I dont need to switch I think these are the best tire for snow. | | | 12-24-2009, 04:34 PM | #25 | Junior Member Join Date: Dec 2009 Location: IL Posts: 9 | Feedback I went with the General tires and am really surprised with the tires and the car's performance in the recent storm we had. I wanted to see how the car would slide so i could know what it feels like. So i tried to get it out of whack in a very safe location. Other than the car wanted to understeer i could not get it to oversteer with those tires on it. I never knew how nice a car this thing could be in the winter. I honestly thought it would unsafe no matter what. In an icy corner it just pulls through with no issues. Now if i can get the darn heater to work... | | | 12-24-2009, 06:47 PM | #26 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2004 Location: Minneapolis Posts: 1,587 | Quote: Originally Posted by cbrightbill I went with the General tires and am really surprised with the tires and the car's performance in the recent storm we had. Late last winter we had a very icy morning; vehicles in the ditch all over. There was a big, new 4x4 Toyota pickup in front of me on the nearly empty freeway. Out of nowhere, the truck just "snapped" into a spin and went into the ditch. We were both doing a very steady speed and the truck neither was changing lanes, accelerating or stopping. All-seasons are just not capable of that serious ice driving. I definitely could feel how slippery it was out, but there was no-way my ti was nearly that unstable. | | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
