Default Air Pump Simulator

I am going to atempt to make a air pump simulator for less then $10 with parts from Radio Shack. I will make a DYI with part numbers and wiring diagrams. I have a good idea of how I will make it start simulation and it should be a easy unit to make. Anyone interested??

Just got back from Radio Shack.....

1 - Component PC board (#276-149 $1.99)

1 - Component Project Enclosure (#270-1802 $2.69)

1 - SPDT * PC relay miniature 12vdc 10V (#275-248 $4.69)

1 – 5V Voltage regulator (#276-1770 $1.59)

1 – Zener Diode 5.1V (#276-0565 $1.39)

1 – Package assorted LED’s (#276-1622 $2.99)

1 - Cermet Potentiometer 1K-ohn 15-turn (#271-0342 $2.69)

So I’m at $20 bucks so far but I purchased a few extra items that I might not need.

I'm going to guess it's something to delete the air pump while fooling the computer into thinking there's one still there

Correct. I like to run my car with no cat or air pump and get no error codes. Simulator cost $200 to purchase, I'm making one for less then $20

Relocated it 1.5 years ago. Never had a code since. Air pump is my only code and I removed it cause I needed the room for the meth system. I finished the unit for $12.45 and I'm testing it tomorrow morning when the car is nice and cold. If it works I already have a DIY written up with pictures ready to post.

Great, thanks!!! However I'm wandering if Nick can erase it from the ECU... If he can get rid of the DISA, I think he can play with that too... And maybe even the after-cat sensor...

Nick does not have code available (Public) to disable emissions items. He can not disable the after cat or air pump without issues from the EPA. I just got a flash from Nick last Monday and we spoke about how to make the air pump simulator. The after cat O2 is real easy to fool by just relocating the O2 out of the exhaust stream

Well, that's what I thought...

The air pump simulator worked great this morning. The sim came on when the DME asked for air pump and fooled the DME with a lean signal. It stayed on for about 2-3 minutes then turned off. No error codes for air pump for $12.45 and a little soldering. I'm at work but will post the DIY today.

DYI with photo's, part list and drawing for 1 & 2 bank simulators located in Knowledge Base in this forum. A big thanks to 318ti.org for not deleting this like the other forums.

Works perfect. No CEL's No issues reported on several sims in use. People have emailed me and used this on LT1 corvette, BMW M3 E36, GM LT1 Impala. I can be twaeked to use on any SAP system. Wide or narrow band O2 sensor not a problem

Remember this is not for cheating emissions. It is for track cars, auto-cross or off-road cars.

The other thing is all the vacuum lines you won't need anymore. You will only need one vacuum line going from the nipple on the TB to the FPR: basically line #1 in your draw will plug straight into the TB.

John, just to confirm: does the ECU diagnose the solenoid (#10) or no? I don't think it does, but I wanted to make sure.
