Default HOW TO: Junkyard mod - vw mkIII front lip spoiler

I went to the junk yard today and picked up a front lip from a mkIII jeta for $10, then stuck it on the ti. A few others from these forums have done this same mod, but when I was searching for it I never found a how-to so I figured I would add one.

Clean it up. I used the bath tub, sponge, and some paper towels.

remove bumper- there are 4 bolts under the molding on the front bumper and 1 bolt on each side of the inner fender well.

mock it up- it was almost a perfect fit.. just a little to trim on each side.

Securly fasten the lip to the bumper. I drilled holes and bolted it on with 4 heavy duty bolts, then put about 10 zip ties on for extra security. This wont be comming off if I scrape, unless my whole bumper comes off...

Trim the sides-

Sorry I beat you to it! If you have anything you wanna add, just post it up. It is stock heigth. It's the m-sport, so it has the m-technic springs though.

Is it possible to put it on without removing the bumper if you have the car on a lift?

I have done this mod over a year ago and It would be possible on a lift, but you would have a hard time to align it properly... It is very worth it to remove the bumper and it only takes like 2 minutes...

Nice write up !.... I have Bilsteins and BavAuto Springs and it rubs very often... There is only like 2 inches of clearance

I just finished up putting mine on (finally!) and I would suggest leaving the black plastic splash guards on like in the picture. I always took the splash guards off the bumper when I took it off but this time I couldn't get the guard back on. Since the drivers side guard was already missing I just took the other off too. Definitely worth the money and effort to do, hope it makes it through the winter...

Good to read about an inexpensive and creative modification. Especially one that doesn't look like something Homer Simpson would do.

This is the only sideview shot I have.. stock height also. Pardon the fender in the second picture, this was a pic taken after a crazy lady in a jeep backed over me

Yep, here ya go. The lip looks kinda odd and discolored because its wet though. Sorry about the blurriness too, Im not even sure what thats all about.
