Default broken wire on back of alternator and alternator replacement

The prongs/ring of the light blue wire on the back of my alternator have broken so I have no connection. I assume this is bad. my idea to fix is to slide a new, larger diameter over existing and crimp closed. Any objections to this idea? I read the DIY on replacing the oil filter gasket and bush. Looks pretty straight forward. I am at a friends house out of state. He has no tools so I will buy a small set. gonna buy a 1/4 drive and sockets for back two nuts 10mm & 13mm also open end wrenches for alternator 16mm, etc. I have screw driver & phillips tire iron for leverage. does belt tension with hydaulic pulley? do I just slide serpentine on by hand and engine does the rest? thanks from Las Vegas JP in AZ
