I would say it is has the date of 8-98 it's a 98. What model do you have? On the 99's i think they only make sport models, there was no base/active. __________________ 98 Avus Blue 318 ti Active clear outs all around, stealth turning signals, blue led interior lights, 35% tinted windows,K&N air filter, 12" Kenwood Sub, MTX Thunder Amp,Alpine cd changer, Leatherz Armrest,ACS Pedals/Handbrake/FloorMats & Vitesse Tuning Carbon Fiber B-Pillars/CF Spark Plug Cover, New 16" MSW Typer 14 Rims on Goodyear Triple Treds www.myspace.com/avusblueti | | | 03-07-2006, 03:44 AM | #3 | Junior Member Join Date: Mar 2006 Posts: 5 | yr model help I'm sorry it came across more than once. i have a 318ti and it was sold to me as a 1999. i had been looking on the internet to replace the radio and found what I think is conflicting info.It says the 99's are an E46(?) and I think mine is E36. I am not sure what the sport is. It's a 2 dr with a hatchback. On realoem.com when I put in the VIN it says it was manufactured in Sept 1998 with a M44 engine and E36. I think I read the engines were different in the 99's. I just wanted to replace the radio and it makes a difference which yr. Also, if they sold it to me as the wrong yr, I probably need to know that. | | | 03-07-2006, 03:52 AM | #4 | Junior Member Join Date: Mar 2006 Posts: 5 | yr model question Could you tell me what base/active is? | | | 03-07-2006, 04:10 AM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Greenville, SC Posts: 9,356 | http://www.318ti.org/companion/index.php?id=8,2,0,0,1,0 1999 was the last year for the E36 318ti. The E46 ti began in 2000. If you don't have a 3 spoke steering wheel, you are definately not a 1999. __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 03-07-2006, 04:18 AM | #6 | Junior Member Join Date: Mar 2006 Posts: 5 | yr model I looked, it's 3 spoked. So it's a 99? What is the sport model? | | | 03-07-2006, 04:22 AM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Greenville, SC Posts: 9,356 | Sport In 1995 the Sport had the same 15" wheels and tires as the active and did not have body colored sideview mirrors. Only the 1995 Club Sport had 16" wheels which later became standard. Starting in 1996 the Sport packaged included, 16" sport alloy wheels with 225/50 ZR high-performance tires, leather steering wheel and shift knob, sport suspension, sport seats, sport cloth/leather upholstery, fog lights, M-technic body-colored bumpers and side skirts. __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 03-07-2006, 04:40 AM | #8 | Junior Member Join Date: Mar 2006 Posts: 5 | yr model I think that describes my car. I'm not sure about the wheels but the seats, leather steering wheel, shift knob and the sport seat extension I have. There is an M on the gear shift as well as the steering wheel. | | | 03-07-2006, 09:57 PM | #9 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2005 Location: UK Posts: 312 | my car has a small sticker under the hood near the vin plate saying "BMW built APR.2000" - one of the last E36/5 made | | | 03-07-2006, 10:17 PM | #10 | TRETEN IRGENDEINES ESELS Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: Rhode Island Posts: 3,687 | Best thing to do would be get a carfax report.
