Anyone ever find an imprint of their brake pad on their rotor?
ive started to get a vibration/shimmy in my steering wheel when I first get on the brake. more pressure on the pedal will make the shimmy go away and the shimmy is usually only felt above ~40mph.
i thought that my rotor was warped, so i was going to take it off and have it cut by a local shop. unfortuantelly i hvaent been sucessful in removing the rotor and i decided to take a brake by surfing the web looking for details on brake warpage, thats when I came across
this. It basically describes how rotor warpage is really not as common as people make it out to be. Instead the vibration is due to friction material deposition, which turns into carbide and wears more slowly creating a high spot. They mention the tell tail sign of seeing an imprint on the rotor.. well in my case I actually see 2 imprints on my rotors probably around 25-30 apart from each other. Ive noticed atleast one imprint for the longest time, probably going back 3 or 4 years... but then I got few other 'fun' cars and didn't drive the TI as much. Recently, I started driving the TI more because I've needed the practicallity of a hatch and noticed the vibration. I wonder if i am experiencing a case of this carbide buildup. They mention one possible way to fix it is to bed it in using a semi metallic pad.. (im currently running on the cheap pagids that i bought from bav auto..whic i think is an OE material isn't semi metallic)
Anyone know if itll work if i run through the bedding with these regular pads? or is the friction material not hard enough?
btw. in terms of usage, I use to autocross a bit and have taken the ti out on a driver school.. I've also occasionally taken the car out to some mountain runs that tend to abuse the brakes. on the street im usually a late braker..
