What is an easy way to tell a Sport model by looking. I have seen pictures of several Sport and non-Sport ti's. They both seem to have very similar, if not identical ground-effect packages installed. Is there possibly something in the VIN that identifies the original trim level? 2. ASC+T - Was this installed on every single 96+ Sport, or was it an option? I saw an ad for a 1998 ti, but it didn't mention the car having this equipped. Thanks you, | | | 05-03-2005, 06:37 PM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Saint Paul, MN Posts: 3,244 | EZ Sport ID= wide black trim strips all the way around the car, slatted valence at bottom of rear bumper and fogs+airducts on front bumper. __________________ My Former Rides 1999 318ti Alpine White, Cali Roof, Dinan goodies 1996 318ti Hellrot California Edition | | | 05-04-2005, 01:35 AM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Greenville, SC Posts: 9,356 | ASC-T started late 96 standard. __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 05-31-2005, 02:58 AM | #4 | Junior Member Join Date: Feb 2004 Location: Warwick, RI Posts: 26 | Quote: Originally Posted by cjandmm I have two more questions regarding the different trim levels of the 318ti. 1. Thanks you, | A real sport package car will have the full aero package (front, rear and side valences), the thicker black plastic door moldings (my '97 has an M logo on the moldings on both front doors... not sure about other years), and Sport seats (these are the ones with the adjustable thigh support and wider side bolsters, and they are covered in cloth/leather upholstery). I've seen some non-sport cars have have been fitted with the aero kit, but I haven't seen the trim or sport seats in these cars. Someone has to go really out of their way to do a full Sport package conversion. __________________ 1997 318ti Sport, Alaska Blue w/ Black & Grey Interior, | | | 05-31-2005, 03:55 AM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: Tyler, TX Posts: 1,022 | Quote: Originally Posted by 96cali EZ Sport ID= wide black trim strips all the way around the car, slatted valence at bottom of rear bumper and fogs+airducts on front bumper. | FYI, any ti can have fog lights and brake ducts, it's just not readily visible from the outside. | | | 06-24-2005, 02:57 PM | #6 | That's not Millpoint Blue Join Date: Apr 2005 Location: BNA Posts: 3,161 | OK, I can't decide... Sport, or Not Sport? http://www.northgeorgiaauto.com/am/listings/l8112.shtml The front bumper looks Sport to me, but the rear bumper and side moldings don't. Why can't they just put a badge on it somewhere to make it easier for us ti-newbies? BTW... Since I'm thinking about test driving it soon, does anyone have any thoughts on this car? It's listed as FWD, but I'm pretty sure that's a mistake. Thanks! Probably an Active package by the wheels. Ususally actives had fogs, leather, comfort stuff. Can't tell by photos. Nice color though! __________________ My Former Rides 1999 318ti Alpine White, Cali Roof, Dinan goodies 1996 318ti Hellrot California Edition | | | 06-24-2005, 06:44 PM | #8 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2003 Location: cary, nc Posts: 2,259 | looks almost exactly like my car when i got mine http://www.cardomain.com/profile/robcarync probably an active...thats what ive concluded mine was...but i had some trouble figuring it out too! __________________ 1995 318ti Active Pioneer Speakers [] Aluminum Billet door locks [] ACS Pedals/Deadrest [] ACS Shift Knob / E-Brake Handle [] Clear Corners/Tails/Sides [] Sylvania Exterior Lighting [] Custom CAI [] Dinan Engine Chip [] Dinan Transmission Chip [] H&R Race Springs [] Tokico Illumina Shocks [] BMW X-Brace [] Relocated Lighter Mod [] Custom iPod Mod http://www.cardomain.com/id/robcarync | | | 06-24-2005, 07:04 PM | #9 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Greenville, SC Posts: 9,356 | Active. The car has cruise which was standard. Fog lights would have been an option. Standard only on the Sport. It is also listed as a 6 cylinder. __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 06-25-2005, 12:31 AM | #10 | aka Stabby Join Date: Nov 2004 Location: Mead, CO Posts: 5,336 | that HAS to be the first 6-cylinder FWD 318ti i've ever seen! buy it now, it's a collector's item! lol __________________ 1996 318ti, California package, 267k miles current mods: bilstein sports, bavauto springs, e30 m3 LCABs, solid metal ball joints, bavauto RSMs w/reinforcements, e30 3.73 LSD & halfshafts, supersprint cat-back exhaust, turner rear sway bar reinforcements, IE poly subframe & RTABs + camber/toe kits, powdercoated e36 32x front calipers, sport mirrors, H&R 28mmF/19mmR sway bars, x-brace, auto solutions SSK w/poly bushing upgrade, BMW CD43 head unit, DICE HD Radio w/iPod integration and "stealth" HD antenna, staggered style 68s, orange electronic TPMS, leather arm rest, JT Designs metal undertray acquired and awaiting install: heated seat kit, cali top switch relo, lumbar support kit, park distance control kit, heated washer nozzle kit, m-coupe rear subframe, trailing arms, differential, and halfshafts, m-coupe front/rear brakes with master cylinder, under hood light kit, mud flaps, rear sun blind, auto-dimming rear view mirror, tilt steering wheel retrofit, apexcone 5000K HIDs with 55W ballasts 2002 X5 4.4 Sport Package, 53.5k miles Current Mods: e46 m3 steering wheel | | | 06-26-2005, 06:48 AM | #11 | That's not Millpoint Blue Join Date: Apr 2005 Location: BNA Posts: 3,161 | A collectors item? Wow... I'm definitely going to snap that one up no matter how much they ask for. Maybe I'll just hand the salesman a blank check and let his conscience decide the price. LOL Seriously though... I might drive down there on Monday, and if I do, I'll do my best to take some notes in case anyone else is interested in that car. Assuming that he doesn't make me an offer I can't refuse. | | | 06-29-2005, 11:47 PM | #12 | Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Georgia Posts: 55 | BTW - the ad says "6 cylinder", but it is a 4 cyl | | | 06-29-2005, 11:51 PM | #13 | Senior Member Join Date: Mar 2005 Location: Portland Or Posts: 2,666 | Unless its a pre-converted one.... That's an M42 engine, just like the one I bought new from the dealer. And note that the battery compartment cover is missing. Have them knock $1,000.00 off for that. | | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
