Default Common for FSB brackets on frame to rust?

How common is it for the brackets on the frame that the front sway bar secures to to rust away? It seems like a bizarre thing to go bad, but even more bizarre that BMW sells replacements parts since they have to be cut off the frame and welded back on.

I wouldn't exactly say it's common, but it has happened to a few members:

I'm actually getting mine fixed today, finally! I have the old one cut off and the new one will be welded on. See pictures. It is a weird thing to happen. My other side is perfectly fine, and no rust anywhere else on the car.

The part number for the housing bracket that gets welded to the car is 41-118-151-121 for the left side and 122 for the right side.

Don't forget to spray some paint or primer over those welds so it doesn't rust again
