Default Hi Guys/Gals & A Question

Hi there peeps,

Just thought I would introduce myself to you all, names Mark and im a first time 318ti owner.

Been a fantastic car so far and was a pleasure to drive to Glasgow and back last week.

Just wondered if anyone had any hints and tips as far as servicing etc.

There is one other thing, I have noticed that the main headlights dont seem to have a very long beam range, is this normal?

I went to Halfords tonight to try and get bulbs for it and was told that my headlight bulbs have only 1 prong and most 318ti's have two, so if anyone has any tips of where to get good strong (and legal) bulbs then please tell away.

Hello Mark and welcome.

The ti is very easy to service. One free tip I will give you is that you have to loosen the oil filter housing (remove the cap) before you drain the oil.

This way, the oil in the filter will be drained as well.

If you don't, the oil in the filter will go into the pan after you put the plug back in, and that dirty oil will mix with the nice clean stuff you put in after.

There are tons of posts on up-keep on here. all you have to do is look around!

welcome, I'd recommend getting HIDs for your headlights, I'm not sure of any UK based retailers though, sorry

Thanks for the feedback guys, especially regarding the colour. In all fairness it was actually the colour that swayed it for me, hope that doesnt sound too girly lol.

If more than 100K on the clock try and have the 2 notorious plastic coolant flanges replaced, as well as the timing chain tensioner... as for the rest, your regular service items (oil/plugs/filters) should do the trick.

Yes, the E36 lights suck! Could try getting some aftermarket (Depo) projector type headlights...

there are plenty of UK members, but a majority of the people who post often on this site are from the US

FYI, the M42 doesn't have the rear plastic coolant flange.
