I've been wanting new wheels ever since I bought my car. I planned to get some about a year ago, and ended up having to spend my money on other things, until now! I ordered a set of 17" Mille Miglia mm 11-2 sports in silver with a set of Kuhmo Ecsta ASX 235/40/17 tires from Tire Rack. They should be here next Tuesday or Wednesday. I'll post some pics as soon as they're on! __________________ I less than three my 318ti | | | 12-30-2005, 12:17 AM | #2 | aka Stabby Join Date: Nov 2004 Location: Mead, CO Posts: 5,336 | sweet. __________________ 1996 318ti, California package, 267k miles current mods: bilstein sports, bavauto springs, e30 m3 LCABs, solid metal ball joints, bavauto RSMs w/reinforcements, e30 3.73 LSD & halfshafts, supersprint cat-back exhaust, turner rear sway bar reinforcements, IE poly subframe & RTABs + camber/toe kits, powdercoated e36 32x front calipers, sport mirrors, H&R 28mmF/19mmR sway bars, x-brace, auto solutions SSK w/poly bushing upgrade, BMW CD43 head unit, DICE HD Radio w/iPod integration and "stealth" HD antenna, staggered style 68s, orange electronic TPMS, leather arm rest, JT Designs metal undertray acquired and awaiting install: heated seat kit, cali top switch relo, lumbar support kit, park distance control kit, heated washer nozzle kit, m-coupe rear subframe, trailing arms, differential, and halfshafts, m-coupe front/rear brakes with master cylinder, under hood light kit, mud flaps, rear sun blind, auto-dimming rear view mirror, tilt steering wheel retrofit, apexcone 5000K HIDs with 55W ballasts 2002 X5 4.4 Sport Package, 53.5k miles Current Mods: e46 m3 steering wheel | | | 12-30-2005, 12:19 AM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Jacksonville, Florida Posts: 322 | Awesome, I bought the same wheels as you about a month ago, except mine are 16's, and I got Kuhmo 712's. They're a bit slippery from the factory and take a while to break in, but I heat-cycle all my tires. But once they do break in, they're quite fun. Very predictable, and good recovery if they do lose traction. __________________ I scream, you scream, we all scream for ZOMBIES. | | | 12-30-2005, 02:00 AM | #7 | aka Stabby Join Date: Nov 2004 Location: Mead, CO Posts: 5,336 | what do you do to "heat cycle" them? __________________ 1996 318ti, California package, 267k miles current mods: bilstein sports, bavauto springs, e30 m3 LCABs, solid metal ball joints, bavauto RSMs w/reinforcements, e30 3.73 LSD & halfshafts, supersprint cat-back exhaust, turner rear sway bar reinforcements, IE poly subframe & RTABs + camber/toe kits, powdercoated e36 32x front calipers, sport mirrors, H&R 28mmF/19mmR sway bars, x-brace, auto solutions SSK w/poly bushing upgrade, BMW CD43 head unit, DICE HD Radio w/iPod integration and "stealth" HD antenna, staggered style 68s, orange electronic TPMS, leather arm rest, JT Designs metal undertray acquired and awaiting install: heated seat kit, cali top switch relo, lumbar support kit, park distance control kit, heated washer nozzle kit, m-coupe rear subframe, trailing arms, differential, and halfshafts, m-coupe front/rear brakes with master cylinder, under hood light kit, mud flaps, rear sun blind, auto-dimming rear view mirror, tilt steering wheel retrofit, apexcone 5000K HIDs with 55W ballasts 2002 X5 4.4 Sport Package, 53.5k miles Current Mods: e46 m3 steering wheel | | | 12-30-2005, 02:04 AM | #8 | TRETEN IRGENDEINES ESELS Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: Rhode Island Posts: 3,687 | Quote: Originally Posted by cali-ti what do you do to "heat cycle" them? | Umm blow dryer __________________ 98 Avus Blue 318 ti Active clear outs all around, stealth turning signals, blue led interior lights, 35% tinted windows,K&N air filter, 12" Kenwood Sub, MTX Thunder Amp,Alpine cd changer, Leatherz Armrest,ACS Pedals/Handbrake/FloorMats & Vitesse Tuning Carbon Fiber B-Pillars/CF Spark Plug Cover, New 16" MSW Typer 14 Rims on Goodyear Triple Treds www.myspace.com/avusblueti | | | 12-30-2005, 02:34 AM | #9 | doesn't care about you. Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: Denver, CO Posts: 3,925 | I won't be getting Kumho 712s again. Rear tires are completely bald on the inside from negative camber and burnin' em. The fronts are ok yet, but I'm going to replace all 4 this spring. The tires got REALLY noisey after about 2 months. The tire guy said it's because they wore uneven, so they make a lot of noise. __________________ '99 Dinan M3 | | | 12-30-2005, 02:42 AM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: state college, pa Posts: 3,431 | Quote: Originally Posted by cali-ti what do you do to "heat cycle" them? | Drive around on 'em to warm them up, pull them off and let them sit separately on their side (not on cold concrete) for 24-48 hrs; repeat. If you're anal, repeat again. It just allows the compounds in the rubber to stabilize. Dusten; I liked the 712s. For an autox tire, they've got really good grip and are inexpensive (relative to pirellis). Unfortunately, one of the side effects of good grip is that the compound is soft so they wear quickly. Consider yourself lucky they aren't motorcycle tires, good ones only last 2500-3500miles! __________________ I scream, you scream, we all scream for ZOMBIES. | | | 12-30-2005, 04:19 AM | #11 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Jacksonville, Florida Posts: 322 | Quote: Originally Posted by Tyler Nice Strange on tirerack they don't show them in 17's anymore just 18's. When I ordered mine, they only had 5 wheels left in my size in the entire US. | | | 12-30-2005, 04:33 AM | #12 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: Pomfret Ct Posts: 277 | Quote: Originally Posted by aceyx I have the same shoes. Very predictable, and good recovery if they do lose traction. | I thought heat-cycling was only for competion tires, w/ really soft compounds that have a great deal of molecular bond change in different temps. "A competition tire is built with a highly sophisticated tread compound, capable of sustaining traction throughout a much wider temperature range, but also extremely sensitive to the first heat cycle of its use. During this cycle, if controlled precisely, the tread compound stretches as it heats, breaking the weaker, shorter molecular bonds within the rubber. The benefit of this process is a tread compound that lasts longer and provides better traction. However, if the first cycle is not performed correctly, the tread may develop irregular compounding, leading to poor wear and inconsistent traction." So only needed for tires with a tread wear rating of less than 100 i would say. I believe that khumo asx are about a 320-400 TW tire. In conclusion no need to heat cycle, especialy if your not tracking or autoXing. | | | 12-30-2005, 08:33 AM | #13 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2004 Location: Seattle Posts: 140 | Quote: Originally Posted by bmw318tiChic Yeah, they're discontinuing this wheel style. I know that street-rubber compound technology has increased a large amount in the past 10 years, but it's not that hard to throw the car up on jackstands for a few days anyway. __________________ I scream, you scream, we all scream for ZOMBIES. | | | 12-30-2005, 09:25 PM | #15 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: Pomfret Ct Posts: 277 | I noticed your car is white so here is a sort of preview, I have H&R race/bilsteins and 11-3's (very simular) but you'll get the idea. This is last year, did some changes to the front end. aceyx...
