So, i know this is long winded, but Im pretty excited.
My adventure today
By Mike
So i drove from central Pennsylvania , to about 30 minutes outside Manhattan (about 3 hours doin slightly over the speed limit) to pick up my ti today. The ebay ad said "might need new clutch soon". Well, we drove it to the notary, so i could get my notarized bill of sale, to do the transfer and get tags here in PA, and when we got there, there was a strong hot clutch smell. So, for a second i considered not getting it, because "soon" to me doesnt equal "right now". Anyways, i decided i was just gonna baby it back to central PA and hope for the best.
I stop at a nearby Autozone (one of our competitors back home) to check fluids.
Well ... when i get out of the car, the left front wheel is smoking and smells horrible. Hooray ! its nto a clutch, i just need to figure out whats wrong with the brakes on the driver side front.
Now, i know that driving with a sticky caliper can be a dangerous endeavor ( FIRES !) but i decide to proceed and hope for the best.
Aparently it unstuck on the highway , because at none of the few stops that i made, did it seem to smell like there was an issue, however once i got near home and was doing a lot more stop and go, it started to smell again.
Anyways, i got to the parts store and looked up slotted rotors and hawk pads and a calipers and hoses (i'm betting the culprit is that the brake hoses werent replaced during the "Recently replaced breaks, tires, alternator, radiator, battery and air filter"
I'm hoping its a simple fix, but even if its all shot from the heat , it is what it is.
i let my buddy drive it when i got home (previous car was a 2000 328ci) to see what he thought about the way it accellerated and handled, and he said he absolutely loved it, and i made an amazing choice by picking a ti, and he thought i got a pretty good deal on it.
That made me pretty darn happy.
Once i get it cleaned up, I'll post some "cleaned up" pictures. Till then ill just post a link to the ebay pictures
