Default e46 2000 323i donor?

A buddy of mine has a 2000 323i that he's starting to prep/save up for a s54 swap... and will be practically giving me his old parts.

From wikipedia
Quote:
M52TUB25
The M52 was upgraded to dual-vanos in 1999, this improved low rpm torque.
Applications:
1999-2000 BMW E46 323i
1998-2001 E39 523i
1998-2001 E36/7 Z3
So an e36/7 had this exact motor, dual vanos m52? Could that ecu/wiring/etc run an m52tub25 from an e46 and would it fit in my car?
