Preferably a car very similar to your set-up. __________________ Real men know how to SEARCH! We tested it on the M3 as well as a 93 325i. The shop owner has a couple more ideas he is going to try out on Monday. | | | 10-31-2009, 08:49 AM | #185 | That's not Millpoint Blue Join Date: Apr 2005 Location: BNA Posts: 3,161 | Is there any way to check the connection between the Peake tool and the harness? Perhaps there's something shorting out within the car side of the connection? E.g. two pins might be making contact inside the connector, or maybe a wire has pulled loose from the pin inside the connector. Please forgive my stupid questions, but I'm hoping my ignorance might somehow be an advantage, for once. LOL __________________ Real men know how to SEARCH! We also tested another harness on the car. Another option is testing the harness on a known working car. If the problem followed the harness we would know that somehow there were two harnesses with the same problem. | | | 11-03-2009, 05:37 AM | #187 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2007 Location: norcal - 94590 Posts: 3,186 | Ok, we had an unexplainable minor breakthrough... the car actually started!!! Runs very rough, doesn't really idle, slowly dies out... revving it up smooths it out somewhat, but there is still a misfire... Coil packs seem to be putting out excess voltage trying to compensate for the misfire. Still can't talk to the car through the Peake tool, so we can't run it for error codes, either. Actually disconnected the MAF and the car ran slightly better, (rather than die) Didn't really do anything different other than replace the ignition wires under the dash. Very strange... __________________ James 95 active w/leather interior and sport interior conversion, Vaders, full M-Tech exterior conversion. Hopefully the idle can get smoothed out. The communications problem I still think is odd. | | | 11-03-2009, 06:09 AM | #189 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2007 Location: norcal - 94590 Posts: 3,186 | Adrien and I worked on it after I got off work for a couple of hours testing circuits and relays. (He may still be there, for all I know...) The ignition wire thing was a stab in the dark and I still don't think it had anything to do with it... Like I said, unexplainable... __________________ James 95 active w/leather interior and sport interior conversion, Vaders, full M-Tech exterior conversion. When you unplug a bad maf it usually runs smooth, until you plug it back in | | | 11-03-2009, 10:31 PM | #191 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2007 Location: Avondale, Az Posts: 203 | Check the crank sensor as well, it will usually crank it but never start. | | | 11-04-2009, 03:19 AM | #192 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2007 Location: norcal - 94590 Posts: 3,186 | MAF is obviously bad, we swapped another one on to test, but it didn't improve much... Still pretty convinced that since the car is acting like it has a bad DME, and we can't communicate with the DME, it is a communication problem, not a physical problem. __________________ James 95 active w/leather interior and sport interior conversion, Vaders, full M-Tech exterior conversion. There isnt a DME issue if NONE of them are working properly, theres some faulty wiring somewhere. __________________ 1995 Hellrot Clubsport 318ti -Gone 1996 Schwartz II Sport 357ti - 5.7L V8 LS1/6 1997 Moregrun Metallic 318ti - Gone 1998 Schwartz II sport 318ti - M50TUB25/5 | | | 11-04-2009, 06:19 AM | #194 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2007 Location: norcal - 94590 Posts: 3,186 | Sorry, didn't mean to imply that the DME is bad, just that the car is acting like it... the problem seems to be that nothing is properly communicating with the DME... Edit - Good news... Adrien got his GT-1 working on the car and was able to get some readings.. He thinks that there is a module that is conflicting with the new addition and causing havoc in the system. Will start testing them tomorrow. __________________ James 95 active w/leather interior and sport interior conversion, Vaders, full M-Tech exterior conversion. At least you have something to work with now. Hopefully you can get things sorted out soon. I hope I don't run into these problems when mine is ready to start. I'm keeping EWS and everything is pretty much swapped directly over from the same M3, but you never know until the moment of truth | | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
