Default spare tire help

haha, i know im gonna sound stupid for posting this, but when i bought my car, the spare came in the trunk, just sitting there under the carpet, i know it needs to be mounted underneath, but i think im missing peices according to the instructions. and i need more trunk spacee, im sick of this spare in the back.

aaaaanyways, so i was wondering if there is a writeup somewhere on how to put it away, or what i'll need, or if there is anything else i could buy/use to safely put my spare away ?

any info appreciated.

thanks.

I just had a flat on one of my rear tires and had to utilize the spare tire for the first time last night. I might be able to help. However, couple of questions.....
1. Do you have a 318ti?
2. If so, when you lift the carpet in the trunk, what do you have/see in the recessed space beneath the carpet?

I will try to take some pic of what mine looks like. I have quite a few tools in that recessed compartment. However, I will not be able to get to it till later this eve.

Take a look at this link to realoem: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/partgrp.d...05&hg=71&fg=05

Number 13 carries the tire and number 18 is bolted from the interior with 18 above the floor and 13 below. Some details between 13 and 18 which hold 13 in place until 18 can be bolted in place are missing. I hope this helps. If you get number 13 from a salvage yard everything you need below 18 should come with it.

Tonyyy.

Do you have Triple A? If so don't even bother putting it back in.

i had a flat a few days ago and let me tell you, after pullling it out from underneath, it is a bitch to get back under. I had to deflate the tire just to get it back under, and then reinflate after i wresteled in back into place...UGH..that's one stupid thing on the TI.not very well thought out.

Really? I've never had a problem taking it out and putting back in. It's a 2 person job to get it back in though. One has to hold it up while the other puts the pin through the top.

You are right Tyler. It does take 2 people to put it back in. I just found out first hand about 30 minutes ago. It was not too bad of a job getting out. However, my mechanic helped me with a jack by pushing it in place while I clipped it in. Anyway Tonyy.....looks like that diagram by Watchmyradical is as good as it is going to get. So, good luck with whatever you do.

Did you use the long threaded rod with the handle on it to lift it? My wife managed this all quite nicely a couple weeks ago without any help at all....

Yes I did. I have a feeling that the spare tire was never used in the past. Regardless, no matter how much we tried, we could not get the tire up far enough to let the clips fall in. Finally we resorted to the jack, which worked just fine.
