When I open the trunk to put anything in, the arms can't hold the weight of the door. Where can I find these parts and are they called hydrolic arms? How do I replace these? Please help! - NoXis | | | 12-13-2008, 09:28 PM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2008 Location: Rensselaer, NY Posts: 254 | This thread isn't about an official BMW replacement part but you may want to check here for a cheap alternative: http://www.318ti.org/forum/showthread.php?t=13422 My brother is looking into doing this fix shortly on his TI. The official BMW part # can be found here: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...60&hg=41&fg=60 You may just want to go to realoem.com a do a search on your specific make and model, as I just plugged mine in. Good Luck. __________________ | | | 12-13-2008, 09:41 PM | #3 | Junior Member Join Date: Nov 2008 Location: Crofton, MD Posts: 14 | Thank you, I read your brothers thread and I will go out to Autozone and do the same as he did. I assume it is not difficult to remove and install new ones. Let me know otherwise please. - NoXis | | | 12-13-2008, 09:45 PM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2004 Location: Minneapolis Posts: 1,587 | You just need a flathead screwdriver to loosen the clips. Caution though, the hatch is quite heavy. If you left it drop the glass will probably shatter. Also, if you let the hatch drop and an arm hits the glass, it'll probably shatter too. I suggest a helper to hold the hatch up so you can dedicate two hands to the job. | | | 12-13-2008, 09:52 PM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2008 Location: Rensselaer, NY Posts: 254 | Whoops, thats not actually my brother. I merely read that thread and suggested the idea to my brother. Glad I could help anyways. __________________ | | | 12-13-2008, 10:05 PM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2008 Location: Greensboro, NC Posts: 234 | i have the same problem but for some reason i only falls when its below 30 degrees Fahrenheit | | | 12-13-2008, 10:09 PM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Greenville, SC Posts: 9,356 | Quote: Originally Posted by acevedo12 i have the same problem but for some reason i only falls when its below 30 degrees Fahrenheit | It is temperature sensitive. Always support the hatch when replacing the struts. __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 12-13-2008, 10:12 PM | #8 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2006 Location: central ct Posts: 503 | i have a stick in my trunk __________________ 2010 Genesis Coupe 2.0t track | 2000 Dakota Former 1995 318ti owner | | | 12-13-2008, 10:59 PM | #9 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2006 Location: Oxford, Ohio Posts: 868 | And lets not forget it's a hatch... ti's are lucky enough not to have a heavy thing called a trunk | | | 12-13-2008, 11:55 PM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2006 Location: Memphis, Tn Posts: 1,299 | The colder it gets the more the gas in the shocks compress so therefore it causes less resistance and will not hold open the hatch. When it is warmer the gas expands and causes more pressure against the shocks which will hold open the hatch. And that hatch is heavy, I have had my shocks off before and you think that it can't be that heavy but trust me it does require your attention. __________________ custom dual exhaust,M3 front and rear bumper, 10.4 inch roof mount drop screen, Viper alarm system, DSII's rims, M3 Vader Seats, M3 Mirrors, Carbon Fiber CAI, Smoked Corners, Side Markers, Leatherz armrests, black grilles 225k miles and still the Ti goes on | | | 12-14-2008, 01:15 AM | #11 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2007 Location: asdfasdf Posts: 10,002 | Quote: Originally Posted by acevedo12 i have the same problem but for some reason i only falls when its below 30 degrees Fahrenheit | same here, since I store my ti for the winter I just don't worry about it | | | 12-16-2008, 12:50 AM | #12 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2006 Location: Oxford, Ohio Posts: 868 | I've been running the low cost, readily available option for about a year and a half and I am very satified with them. They fit perfectly and hold the hatch up great. Get rid of the stick Brian, and check out the first link in post #2. | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Thread Tools | | Display Modes | Linear Mode | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
