Default HOW TO: Junkyard mod - vw mkIII front lip spoiler

I went to the junk yard today and picked up a front lip from a mkIII jeta for $10, then stuck it on the ti. A few others from these forums have done this same mod, but when I was searching for it I never found a how-to so I figured I would add one.

Clean it up. I used the bath...

I had the front bumper off again today and wanted to point out that if your gonna do this make sure to shave off the plastic lip on the top of the lip (I hope that made sense). Theres a lip of plastic along the top and if you shave that off it will give you a better fit. Thats a project for a warmer day though.

I wish there were car junkyards around me... I'd like to do this.

Have you guys thought about putting some forever black on it to make it darker? I guess this would really only apply to those who have darker cars (not the silver Ti)

If there isnt a junkyard in your area you could probably go on VWVortex.com and ask for one, Im sure most MKIII guys have one sitting in the corner of their garage. If not Im sure VWVortex.com could also direct you to a parts place online that could get you one new, it would still probably be less then any other lip you could find for these cars.

Yeah Im going to do something to make it look a little better this spring. There is no point cleaning it up this winter when it is going to be dragged through all the snow and salt.

Is it really appropriate to post "for sale" ads in a "how to" thread? Seems to me like you'd have better luck posting your ad in the "For Sale" forum.

I'm happy to see more ti owners doing this mod. You can't beat it for the price and the lip is very tough. I've been running this lip for the last 2 years and it's still holding up very well, and my car is super low. You can put it on without removing the bumper if you have somebody helping you. If not, just take your bumper off. I sold my MKIII to get my ti, and I had my old lip sitting in the garage, so I figured I'd put it to use.

Here's my lip:

Anyone try anything other than a MkIII Jetta front valence? Around me, only two salvage yards have one ... One wants me to buy the entire bumper assembly and the other wants $80 for the valence.

Great tip! That might even look better than the Jetta.

Thanks!
