1996: thanks for the tip on it being for a sport model.

not sure about the holes. Looks like they are supposed to be there due to the casting on the back but I could be wrong. I figured there may be some sort of push or pop pin that is supposed to go there. Maybe screws. not sure.

Nah, there shouldn't be holes.
I have one on my car.
Otherwise it looks very clean.

Edit: There are probably markings on the back where you would drill a hole.

Now by, sport, do we mean clubsport/mtech? Or is it the same as a base?

The regular front bumper license plate cover doesn't say BMW on it. Just a flat black piece.
